Writers who sell a script to a studio actually give up their copyright. Contracts are worded so, even if it was a spec sale, everyone agrees that it’s work-for-hire and the studio owns the copyright. So in that case, the screenplay is not the writer’s to publish.
As for other writers who may want to self-publish, I haven’t encountered it. I’ve purchased a few screenplays in book form, but most of my collection I found as free PDF downloads online.
I publish my scripts in the form of novellas. It's a pretty easy process to convert them. I've sold over a hundred and it means my friends get to experience my stories without the need for a movie to be made. There's no money in it though as novella's have next to no profit margin if they are priced competitively.
