Two books have been greatly influential to me as an actor. Sanford Meisner on Acting and Audition by Michael Shurtleff. Those two books I recommend to every newbie. What books have inspired or been most influential to you as an actor? What books do you recommend to a beginner?

I always recommend Michael Caine's "Acting in Film." Witty and insightful!

Suzanne Bronson I love Meisner's book like you. I also like another classic which is Uta Hagen's "Respect for Acting'.. Other than books on technique, i enjoyed reading "This Is Just My Face' by Gabourey Sidibe about her life and her experience acting, She talks about the difficulty navigating fame as a black woman who doesn't fit the industry mold. I loved when she said "I didn't know how to act. I just knew how to be."

Alexandra Stevens I like Hagegen's book too. And there are a lot of gems in Stanislavsky's books. I have not read Sidbe's memoir, but I have read many actors. Michael Caine has two. I go to the libray and browse celebrity memoirs. That is another good way to learn about acting, reading the experience of others' Especially those from "old hollywood:."

Those two books are fantastic! I'm also a big fan of Scott Sedita's The Eight Characters of Comedy.
