Introduce Yourself : The ‘86 Kids Book by Matt Sem

The ‘86 Kids Book

Hi Everyone, my name is Matt Sem. I will be a first time published author in June, so am excited about that. My book is entitled The ‘86 Kids. It is a memoir about growing up in the 1980’s. I wrote it as a combination of The Wonder Years meets Seinfeld. A bit of humor and nostalgia all wrapped into one. Big Gen X appeal. You can check out the books website at www.mattsembooks.com

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Welcome, Matt Sem. Your '80s idea sounds like a lot of fun!

Thank you for writing a book about the 80s. The 80s were the best decade ever! Reading your book brought back so many nostalgic memories. I highly recommend it; I absolutely loved it. I can’t wait until it’s released in June..

As someone who was around 5 years old in 86, I appreciate the nostalgia here.

I was a teenager at that time lol

I would read your book to see how your experience in the 80's compared to mine - I grew up in a small suburb in Australia with not much money. I would read your story to see how we compared. Love the idea and your website is great. It was the first thing I checked out. Well done on getting your book out there!

Congrats on the release

Congratulations Matt! Getting published is a huge accomplishment. When I published my first back around 2000, I met with Jack Canfield, one of the authors of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series and got the best piece of advice I ever got about the sales/marketing side of the equation. He told me, "the day your book gets published is the calm before the calm. Expect zero marketing help from the publisher. Figure out how you're going to sell at least 10,000 copies without their help and get started before the book comes out." Based on that advice the book sold about 175,000 copies because me and my partner marketed it like crazy and figured out how to sell it in bunches to groups and associations. We didn't get much help at all from the publisher (Wiley and Sons) until we sold about 10,000 copies and then they decided to put a little money into promotion.

That is absolutely wonderful and I hope you feel immensely proud of yourself and your accomplishments! Keep up the amazing work.
