I'm Debbie Elicksen, one of the moderators of the Distribution Lounge. It's been a while since I reintroduced myself.
I chose this lounge to be a part of because of my communications and PR background. Marketing, distribution, and PR, thanks to the digital hemisphere, blurs the lines of all three. Finding new ways to distribute and learning about global networks are passions of mine.
Looking forward to seeing many of you visit the lounge, and feel free to find unique and interesting ideas that will help others make their projects sing.

Hi, Debbie Elicksen. It's always great to see you and talk with you on here. How's your week going?

Maurice Vaughan Not too shabby. :) Backed up all my videos and everything else to the hard drive, now to tackle the photographs and downloading the G Drive ones, too. Sigh.

I need to get a hard drive and back up everything, Debbie Elicksen. I meant to look up some. Thanks for the reminder.

I produced a video podcast from 2005-2009 (Track-shun.tv) and wrestled with distribution. I went from server farm to server farm but would exhaust a month’s worth of bandwidth in about 3 days with the demand from Apple Podcasts. Eventually I found a server devoted to podcasting and settled in there. I sold advertising directly and made the ads myself. The Great Recession put an end to my revenue stream and I signed off in 2009. I learned a lot and 15 years later I’m headed for another showrunner gig, eventually.

William Swett Things are so much different now than back in 2005 and 2009. So many more ways to push out a podcast. If you ever decide to dust it off or create a new one, the sky is the limit. :) Platforms like StreamYard let you livestream simultaneously on YouTube and other platforms. Then there are so many more tools to cut clips, create unique social videos, stories, and images. Yes, I'm obsessed with digital. ;)

Maurice Vaughan For real. Do it asap otherwise you'll learn the hard way like me. It just takes an older computer, a bad update, and a sneaky malware hiding in a reputable source's post to crash your computer and fry your hard drive. It's happened to me, twice.
The first time, I lost everything. Another time I lost use of my computer until I could get a computer exorcist to clean off a virus. That time made me anal about having more than one computing device. When I had my home publishing business, I had two laptops, a Chromebook, and a tablet.
The last crash happened before my gaming laptop was yet a year old. Windows 10 automatically updated to Windows 11 and it crashed all my drivers. I had to leave my laptop at Best Buy Geek Squad for a WEEK! Fortunately most of my files were automatically synced to OneDrive, but not all of them. Sigh. So of course, now all my files are synced to OneDrive and I back up to my hard drive when I need to move files. The telltale sign is when the computer slows down. Videos and photographs, which I do daily, take up a ton of space.
But everyone, if you don't hear anything else coming out of my mouth, back up, back up, back up. It's not a matter of if, but when.

Sorry to hear that, Debbie Elicksen. I'm glad most of your files were automatically synced to OneDrive. I'm going to look for a hard drive this week.

Hi Debbie! Thanks for reintroducing yourself — and thank you for all the value you bring to the Distribution Lounge. As a creator building my own animated universe (AllBlackAnime) and directing projects like Soturi, I know firsthand how vital strong marketing and strategic distribution can be. I’d love to connect and exchange ideas on how emerging creators can better position their IPs globally, especially in animation and genre storytelling.
Excited to learn more from you and this space!

Laquan Copeland You will find a wealth of knowledge from a lot of people in this lounge. Sounds like a fantastic niche to create.
