Hi Stage 32 Community!
I am James, 21 year old videographer from London/Birmingham UK.
1 year ago I decided to pick up a camera for the very first time ever, 6 months later I was signed by a Record Label in London which is obviously specialising in Music.
A goal for the next 6-12 months is really to get started on creating films, mainly outside of the UK. I have found myself such a vision and passion for films and the thought of creating, one day. The feeling that certain genres feed me is insane.
At this very moment in time, I am just asking for advice on how to get myself out there Internationally to be put onto film projects etc, I'm not sure if I've necessarily worded that correctly but I'm just super hungry for more and more.
A couple of my favourite films that i've found myself rewatching over and over again is "Notting Hill" and "The Girl Next Door". One day I truly believe and vision myself I will make something like that.
Well that's a short summary of me, James.
Thank you for reading and do please get back to me, if you can of course :)

Hi, James Hedges. Welcome to the community. Congratulations on getting signed by a Record Label!
Networking on Stage 32 is a great way to get yourself out there internationally for film projects, etc. Stage 32 has a blog that'll help you navigate the platform and connect with creatives and industry professionals all over the world (www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-successfully-navigate-the-stage-32-platform-...).

James Hedges Hi James, I endorse everything that Maurice has said. It’s all about networking; not necessarily a numbers game, but certainly a relationship one. Building relationships particularly with people who can help sustain and direct any career you may have in the future.
Here’s wishing you every success, in music and film.

Hi James, welcome. I always find it interesting to read introductions on here because I love picking up on certain connections. There seems to be many here that have a music background and then step into other creative outlets with something like film. What do you think compelled you to even pickup that camera? Were you simply trying to express something different?

Hey James Hedges - welcome to Stage 32! You've already made an important step toward your goals by joining this platform - congrats! I echo the advice already posted in this thread by our colleagues. I would add a few thoughts for your specific situation/location:
- try to flesh out you Stage32 profile page as much as possible and keep it updated as you complete gigs, activities. If' you've already got ideas for a film, post your logline, etc.
- check out the Stage32 Jobs board and search both at your location and also internationally
- engage with the very friendly and supportive members of Stage32 on your target lounges as often as possible - just reading the conversations you could learn a lot BUT you can learn a LOT MORE if you ask questions :)
- I suggest you try to get some things on your resume. You're in the UK - so, start with where you're at to rack up experience you can then leverage into being active in other countries. Check out ProductionBase ( https://www.productionbase.co.uk ) and Mandy ( https://www.mandy.com/ ) and try to get some gigs.
- here's a big one: if you can, start getting some Stage32 Certifications ( https://certification.stage32.com/ ) one of the best ways to show potential employers you're committed and prepared to get on a set
Love the energy and momentum - keep it going!
