Hey everyone!
So, I’m curious, what hobbies and interests do you all dive into outside of filmmaking? I’m a bit of a weirdo because my work is also my hobby. Filmmaking? I’m as obsessed with it as a hobbyist as I am as a pro. It’s wild how my passions blur those lines. Same goes for a bunch of other stuff I’m into.
For example, my partner and I love to unwind by salsa dancing. It’s not just dancing, though I teach it too and I have for years. It’s such a great vibe, connecting with cool people wherever we go. Seriously, find a salsa spot anywhere in the world and you’re instantly part of a community.
I’m also super into photography, though I haven’t had much time to play with my camera in the last couple of years.
Then there’s designing and building stuff, whether it’s 3D printing, wiring or soldering. Just two days ago, I whipped up a custom sun shade for a camera monitor. I love that hands-on tinkering!
I’m also the guy fixing power windows in the car or installing backup sensors just because I can do that myself.
So, what about you? What’s your thing outside of writing or filmmaking?
Drop your post below, can’t wait to hear it!
(Old picture of me and Leya dancing, we just went last Wednesday)
Have an awesome day!

Vital Butinar, outside of film and so on, I take care of animals on a farm. That is a great way to connect to nature. My other hobbies include reading, after all, I founded an internationally acclaimed library. Plus, I enjoy watching cheesy B movies. You mention that you enjoy dancing. I am including a link to a song I wrote titled Plain Wrapper. The lyrics are actually taken from a 75 year old comic book ad for dancing. Let me know what you think if you get a chance to listen.

Hey, Vital Butinar. Hope you're doing great! I look up random things online as a hobby sometimes, but most of the time I just watch movies/shows when I have time.

Wyman Brent oh cool song! I like it, has that kind of latin vibe and is a little bit of a samba and a little bit of other stuff.
Yeah as far as dancing goes I got into the salsa scene one time almost 20 years ago and never stopped. Go so hooked that I even got into professional ballroom and was in about three performance groups for different kinds of dances. There's where I also met my partner Leya.
Well I don't do much reading unless it's on a screen, at one point I'd like to fix that.
But it's cool that you founded a library.
I love watching movies too.

Hey Maurice Vaughan nice to see you.
Actually doing great, a little busy because I'm in the middle of shooting a feature during the summer, but it's great!
Oh I love looking up stuff too, I especially love listening to conspiracy theories on YT because I love stories like that, they're a great source of inspiration for ideas for future screenplay and stuff.
I also love watching and re-watching moves also. Can't seem to find many TV shows that would draw me in. The last thing Leya and I watched was Severance and even that didn't hook me that much, it was ok but that was it.

Vital Butinar, great way to meet a partner. I would dance but I have two left feet and wear two right shoes. I can create music, but do not ask me to dance to it. I am really glad that you like the song. I think people could actually dance to it.

Vital Butinar, let me know if you need any music for your feature. I have written more than 200 songs.

Nice to see you too, Vital Butinar. Congratulations on the feature! I'm looking forward to seeing it! Severance is on my watch list. I have to finish watching some shows, then I might start Severance or The Bear.

As for the salsa scene, I am definitely into salsa with chips.

I’m a painter/artistic type and I do hair/own a salon. I have very limited access to the film industry where I live but I still like to write what I can! Scripts are a hobby of mine but I’m hoping to get a couple out there, like the rest of us!
kudos on salsa by the way-I would sprain an ankle lol

I'm more into canning salsa than dancing it, but I do love swing dancing/Lindy hop! I'm a retired skydiver; now I golf. I also grow herbs, salad greens, edible flowers and way too many tomatoes.

Wyman Brent yeah I love the song. But as far as music goes for now I'm covered, a neighbor of mine is a composer and we're actually using his studio to shoot a scene and also for ADR. But thanks anyway.
You know that wasn't the point, I actually loved going dancing all by myself and with friends and if happened to meet someone and get involved then that happened. Then I met Leya. :)

Maurice Vaughan thanks! Yeah unfortunately it's a no budget feature that we put together with a lot of group effort and will power so it comes with a bunch of problems. Like problems with scheduling and finding crew. We've had problems with sound guys all since we started, we didn't have the same guy for more than one day and a couple of days we didn't have a makeup artist.
Yeah like I said, I love TV shows, but haven't been able to find one that would do it for me.

Kendall Helton oh that's great! Leya my partner is along with being a great cinematographer, editor and colorist primarily a sculptor. So having a creative outlet is great and also owning a hair salon is a good choice because for myself I know I'd love to have a business that's not directly connected to filmmaking to earn some money that way, since I don't I keep having to hustle to find projects when it's the low season.
I love going dancing, there was a time about 12 years ago when we'd go salsa dancing or something else every day in the week. We didn't get much sleep those days, we kept coming home at 4AM. :)

Diane Fluin oh skydiver, that's cool! I've done swing dancing too, I can actually dance a bunch of stuff along with swing, ballroom, salsa, kizomba, west coast swing, etc. But some how found myself most comfortable in the salsa and related scene.
I've actually never played golf before, except for mini golf which from what I know is different, but very cool.
My partner Leya grows her own stuff too, like herbs and tomatoes, salads and our garden is full of flowers, but other than having to help her dig I'm not much of a gardener. But still cool!

You're welcome, Vital Butinar. Let me know when the feature is finished. I'll share about it on social media if you want.
