Hey Fellow Filmmakers!
Hope everyone’s week has been going good! I’ve been crazy busy with general life occurrences as well as prepping for my next short horror film, DEAD STEP, which is slated to shoot in August.
Over the past couple weeks, we’ve managed to secure locations, receive the FX props, consult with actors, and prepare some of the licensed and original compositions. The next phase is a table read for the short along with going through the shot list with our small crew.
I’m excited to see this project come to life as it is an “experimental” approach and I believe our small crew is equally as excited for it.
I would to receive some feedback on the short teaser trailer and gauge whether it draws interest based solely on the short amount of footage.
if you have any questions, feel free to ask and I’ll definitely get back with you!

Hi James Watjen - honored to meet you and congratulations on completing not just the teaser but the progress you've made on the project. As far as the teaser goes, I love the title but I honestly couldn't tell what the story was about. All the best with it!

Hey, James Watjen. Hope your week's been going good too! Congratulations on Dead Step shooting in August! I like the teaser trailer! It got me interested in the film! One suggestion: start the teaser with someone walking since the movie is called Dead Step.

Hey, so I have to agree, I have no idea what it's about based on this teaser! The title is epic, but what's it about?

Rosie Schreiber it’s a “experimental” short horror film about a love triangle gone wrong and shot entirely from the knees down. It sounds like something difficult to pull off but I wanted to shoot something that posed a difficulty when it came to showcasing emotion from a different angle. I wanted to create a visual that creates such a questionable approach at an uncomfortable angle that it draws the audience’s attention. It stems from a study I read on how emotions are strongly conveyed through people’s legs and feet.

Hi James Watjen ! Thanks so much for sharing the teaser! Before I read your response to Rosie, I found it intriguing & understood that, just like the last set of feet entering the house, maybe ALL those pairs of feet are heading to that same end/fate. And that statue thing may just be more than a statue. After you gave more of a description, my take is that 1) I freakin' love this adventure you're going on; 2) I would be looking for a lot of consistent 'threes' - three pairs of legs, six legs, etc. - that could serve as a more intuitively specific intro to your three main characters. But I am fascinated about what this short will end up looking like - much luck with it! and I hope you do some extra content on that study! cheers
