Introduce Yourself : Hi everyone! I’m excited to be here and finally introduce myself. by Galina Samoilova

Galina Samoilova

Hi everyone! I’m excited to be here and finally introduce myself.

I’m at the very beginning of my journey into filmmaking — coming from a background in philosophy and film theory. I recently completed my thesis on the aesthetics of the everyday in cinema, exploring how absurdity and violence reflect deeper emotional truths in the works of Kubrick, the Coen Brothers, and Balabanov.

Right now, I’m based in St. Petersburg, getting hands-on experience with local productions whenever I can — and slowly building my path toward something much bigger. I’m especially passionate about set work, storytelling, and the “invisible” moments that make a scene resonate. Think: the silence before the chaos, the odd beauty of routine, or the comedy hidden in despair.

I'm also working hard to improve my English, absorb as many films as possible, and connect with people who feel just as strongly about the magic of cinema.

My dream? To move to Los Angeles one day and work in the film industry — not just to watch the magic happen, but to be a part of making it real.

If you're into absurd realism, dry humor, emotional grit, or just love a good story — let’s connect

You're welcome, Galina Samoilova. What's your favorite Kubrick movie?

Geoff Hall

Galina Samoilova Hi Galina, welcome to Stage 32.

How are you and how is life in Saint Petersburg? I hope you know that you don’t have to move to Los Angeles to be a part of the film industry. check out the European scene, or Atlanta in the US has a burgeoning industry.

Here’s wishing you the very best, Geofff

Galina Samoilova

Yes, great. Saint Petersburg is a wonderful city, a must-see. Yes, Geoff Hall I know that LA is not the only venue in the world of cinema, but that is where I want to go, to experience it. Thank you for your valuable advice, I will take a closer look!

Oh, Full Metal Jacket and Clockwork Orange the most beloved

why hollywood. why not Moscow?

Muhammad Abed Baryal

I really enjoyed reading your introduction Galina Samoilova — especially your background in philosophy and film theory. That intersection between absurdity, routine, and deeper emotional truth is exactly where I find the most powerful cinematic moments, too.

Stanley Kubrick is actually my number one inspiration as a filmmaker. His control over tone, space, silence — and the way he turns stillness into tension — shaped the way I see not only cinema, but the world. I’ve rewatched his films endlessly and each time, I notice something I missed before.

Right now, I’m working on screenplays and visual concepts from Afghanistan, where access and communication with the industry can be quite difficult. Still, I believe there are ways — even from here — to build authentic connections and slowly move forward, especially by sharing our artistic voices and learning from one another.

I’d love to stay in touch and exchange ideas, especially since we seem to share a similar love for the invisible details that make cinema meaningful.

Looking forward to hearing more about your work and journey.

Galina Samoilova

Oh! I'm so glad to hear that Muhammad Abed Baryal ! It's incredible! i mean Afganistan/ This proves once again that cinema is not concentrated in one place and there are people all over the world who are burning with their passion and idea! I hope our paths will cross again along the way! I didn't know that anyone would be interested in my work (they were skeptical at the university, I can understand them)), but soon I'm going to translate the entire text of my thesis and possibly post it here

I remember watching Full Metal Jacket when I was younger, Galina Samoilova. Maybe a kid or teen. I probably didn't understand some things about the film back then. I've been meaning to watch Clockwork Orange. I've heard people rave about it.

Galina Samoilova

Maurice Vaughan Yes, almost all of Kubrick's films need to be watched at least twice, because you don't immediately grasp all the moments and details. "Full Metal Jacket" is one of the examples of cult cinema for me. And I like "A Clockwork Orange" because of how Kubrick changed the novel.
