Introduce Yourself : Tokyo based screenwriter looking to connect by James Sutherland

James Sutherland

Tokyo based screenwriter looking to connect

Hey everyone, I'm James, a kiwi screenwriter based in Tokyo, I've been a little scarce lately, doing a few bits and pieces on other platforms, but now Coverfly has ended, I'd figure I'd use that time to invest in Stage32. I've been lucky to meet some real high quality people from here and hope to meet more. This year I was a semi-finalist in both the Creative Screenwriting Feature and TV pilot competitions. I'm updating all my loglines and other things on my Profile, please take a look and connect if you like. I'm looking for script swaps, writing collaborations, mentorship, and, as all of would I'm sure, I would love to hopefully get some paid work eventually either selling some of my own or writing something for someone else, if any body has any advice on that next step I would love to hear it. Hoping everyone has a great weekend!

Michael Dzurak

Welcome! Congrats on the placements.

I am American script writer based in Korea. This site is much more active than CoverFly wth its lounges and all sorts of options. Check out the OWAs for possible paid work.

Best.

James Sutherland

Thanks Michael Dzurak the OWAs are part of the Writers Room, is that right? I thought about joining but 39$ a month seemed a bit steep for me.

Patrik Gyltefors

Welcome! I run a small VFX studio in Kamakura, so it is nice to meet others active here in Japan.

James Sutherland

Nice to meet you Patrik Gyltefors been to Kamakura many times, beautiful down there!

Michael Dzurak

James Sutherland Anyone can submit to OWAs but it's free for Writers' Room members, but to join the WR you need to pay, so I'd do it if you are planning to really use it a lot.

Israfil Yagubov

Hi! Nice to meet you!

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, James Sutherland. Congratulations on being a semi-finalist in the Creative Screenwriting Feature and TV pilot competitions!

My biggest tip is to network/build relationships on Stage 32. The next Community Open House is August 27th. It’ll help you connect with creatives and industry pros. There's going to be a live Q&A. Here's the link to sign up for free: www.stage32.com/education/products/stage-32-s-august-community-open-house Even if you can't make it live, sign up and you’ll get the recording in your Education Library when it’s available.

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Michael Dzurak. Only Writers' Room members can submit to the OWAs.

Michael Dzurak

Maurice Vaughan Oh whoops… thanks for the clarification.

I could have sworn I saw the option before I signed up.

But yeah, you're the moderater and info guy, not I!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Michael Dzurak. It says "Submissions for Writers' Room members are always FREE but you must be an active Writers' Room member to be considered" on the OWA pages.

George M Lucas

I just want to start this road by asking for some assistance, I’m trying to find a paid job in the “theater” industry… which is a vague term I’m looking for paid acting in Tucson; but that’s hard to come by, but I can be a paid member of an on set crew. I looked into monsoon protections and they’re only 16 miners away from where I live, but I want to broaden my horizons.

James Sutherland

Thank you Maurice Vaughan I'll do my best to be there!

James Sutherland

Hi Israfil Yagubov nice to meet you!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, James Sutherland. Ok, great. And the Writers' Room badge is beside your name.

James Sutherland

Oh cool! Thank you for that Maurice Vaughan

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, James Sutherland. Here's the Writers' Room portal page: www.stage32.com/writers-room/portal

James Sutherland

Hi Maurice Vaughan yes I've already applied to some OWAs and have been checking out the Writer's Room resources, thank you!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, James Sutherland. Oh ok. You're a Writers' Room member. I wasn't sure from your first comment. Hope your script(s) move forward in the OWAs!

Lauren Hackney

Welcome! I'm like yourself, I liked Coverfly for the percentage ranking and knowing where I stood in the 'food chain' and I liked seeing me go from 35% to 12%. Made me feel like I was improving. But here, at Stage 32, you will have so much more than that! Open houses, lounge chats, pitch opportunities and loads of people to connect with. I hope you enjoy it here - I've certainly grown from being on this platform

Ryan Wilford

Welcome and good luck! @James

James Sutherland

Hi Lauren Hackney a fellow from down under, thank you and great to meet you!

James Sutherland

Hi Ryan Wilford thank you very much!
