I remember from a really early age making up songs. I'd play them on the piano (instead of playing the assigned scales) or write lyrics down in a notebook. They'd be about nothing, or big feelings I was having, or something that happened at school that day. Sometimes they were even satirical. When did you discover composing?

I never had the opportunity to learn or play any music instrument untill after college (2010). But before then I had sounds in my head that I couldn't get out. I could only hear them by mimicing sounds of musical instruments with my mouth. Surprisingly, my sister loved some of those sounds. Lol. Anyways, after college, I learnt to play the piano and drums and my journey into composing started. This might not make any sense to you if you are not in Africa, but it's really my story.

It makes total sense. Not everyone has access to instruments-- the acapella musical movement is one of my all time favorite ways to compose! I'd love to hear some of your work!

Remember writing my first piece of original music while I was taking piano lessons. That would put it in the era of something like 1958 - 1963.

I only started writing songs last year. Then in April of this year, I unlocked a floodgate of creativity when I wrote a song title What the Mack? Since that time, I have written at least 400 songs. Being on the extreme spectrum of creative synesthesia has its advantages.

I started with a Casiotone like this one https://www.ebay.es/itm/256831377146?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=1185... and with a wood flute from school, so I don´t really remember the exact date :)...

Started writing jazz tunes in 1976. Started studying with Paul Caputo in 1994. He taught me harmony, counterpoint and helped me with my first compositions. I've been writing music ever since.

Libby Wright I started in 1996, right after I stopped taking piano lessons, which I started when I was 6 years old. That's when I discovered I could compose. I had to be away from the "structured learning" and expectations to find that it naturally comes to me if I don't think about the "rules."

Composing seeded into my mind at teenage (~ 90's), then stayed dormant for decades. I've listened to thousands hours of musics of any style since then and never stopped playing the piano that I started at age 6. But in 2023 I felt a strong need to come back to composing in a serious manner. The seed has now turned into a little tree ! My main goal is to me a full time music composer for cinema and documentaries.
