I just read RB's latest Coffee & Content. I loved The Hollywood Reporter’s Comedy Actress Roundtable. One of the actresses talked about the need to stay in your lane as an actress and stay true to yourself rather than trying to emulate others. That makes total sense to me. I think we are at our most magnetic when we dare to be true to ourselves. So easy to say though yet I still struggle at times to be true to myself.
My question to you is 'what does it take to stay true to yourself when acting or creating in general? What helps you get there?

Well, I am definitely not an actress. I do not have the legs for it. As for creatitvity in general, I just do what I want. I have zero idea what is popular or trending either in films, TV shows or music. Either I respect my vision or I can choose to try and be like someone else. I would much rather be myself.

Creating what you want to create and being part of projects that line up with what you believe are how to stay true to yourself in my opinion, Alexandra Stevens.

As far as acting goes Alexandra Stevens if it's a role that someone else has done, I don't watch it. I want to bring my own interpretation to it, not be influenced by who someone else did. For creativity in general, being creative is being true to myself. Finding my joy and going all in, is true authenticity. I think also not judging the work, messy, less than perfect performance, is part of the process.

Suzanne Bronson well put! I agree that the creative process involves being true to ourselves. I admire those who can go all in, even though i want to i sometimes find myself holding back

Alexandra Stevens, thank you so much. I honestly have zero idea what is hot right now on the screen or in music. I just do my own thing with a lot of help from coffee.

I think the interesting thing about being true to yourself is first knowing yourself.
I do a lot of work in this area, and what is always a revelation to people is how much the world knows about us that we think we’re hiding, or that we think we need to show in order to be understood. There’s an inherent disconnect between what we think of ourselves and what the world sees.
In that sense, we can’t be authentic until we’ve reconciled the two. Because if our goal is to make art for the world, then we must do the work to know how we’re perceived first. Authenticity requires the audience’s agreement.
Otherwise we risk walking through life with the metaphorical “mustard on the face”, and everyone is wondering if we know it’s there…
