Enneagram Types

anyone else familiar with the Enneagram? it’s a great personality typing system that can be really useful for character development. just curious if anyone else is leveraging this tool. On a personal level, it’s obviously great for building self-awareness and EQ mainly but just putting it out there in case you haven’t heard of it.

Maurice Vaughan

I don't think I've heard of Enneagram, Trip Anderson. I'll check it out. Thanks.

hi Trip Anderson - I have not used it, no. But it's likely to create some wonderful character attributes, no? thx for sharing!

Arthur Charpentier

No, I don't use the Enneagram in my work. But I used to create characters using personality types and temperaments from psychology. This way, you can create over a hundred different characters with unique personality traits. Now, I pay little attention to character development. It's more important to create interesting goals and dramatic situations for your characters, and then the right personality for a given situation will become clear.

David Taylor

I'll take a look.

Trip, the Enneagram is such a valuable tool for character depth! I've found it helps create more authentic, layered personalities. It's wonderful for understanding not just who characters are, but why they respond the way they do in conflict.

Miquiel Banks

Yes, it's an all-purpose tool for building Great Characters and Characterization. The Strongest Proponent of this Approach is Jeff Kitchen, he goes deeper into this than the other Story Gurus or Story Systems or Methodologies. You can peep him and his work and read his wonderful book (Writing a Great Movie).

David Taylor

Enneagrams remind me of 'Belbin's Team Roles' which I have found useful in writing about team relationships because it discloses why many teams actually succeed or fail.
