Hey Stage32 people!
Happy, slightly late, Introduce Yourself Weekend, reintroducing myself.
I'm a filmmaker from Slovenia and I just wrapped principal photography on my very first feature film called Pure Vortex!
A blog about it will be coming out in the next couple of weeks, but if you're interested I did write one about pre-production of the film a couple of months ago.

It still feels surreal now that we're done and I keep missing the days on set. Some how shooting a feature is way different than commercial videos which is what I've been occupied with recently. I'm excited about the first rough cut, even though I know we still have a long way to go with post production. How’s everyone else doing?
What are you wrapping, starting or trying to do?
Have a great week everyone!

Vital Butinar This looks right up my alley!! I would love to read the script sometime. Gonna guess you are a pretty big music fan by the looks of this.

Hey Darrell Pennington, I'm happy you like it. Well once upon a time I used to be a bit of a musician. But more than anything it felt like a cool story and it was the only one of my screenplays that we could shoot without a budget and locally. I'm hoping it will make a nice funny comedy.

Maurice Vaughan thank you. Congrats on your rewrites. I've been trying to work on a rewrite one of my screenplays for a couple of months now, but am struggling with time because of post on Pure Vortex.
You're welcome, Vital Butinar. Thanks. Hopefully you'll have time to work on the rewrite once post is done. I'm looking forward to seeing Pure Vortex! Check out SETESH.

Maurice Vaughan thanks, but post will be taking a long time, since it's just me and Leya. So it will be another 6 months at least, we've got to do all the editing and not to mentioned the foley and then it has to be scored, not to mention color graded. Lots of work and we still have to keep up with other work and Leya has her sculpting.

You're welcome, Vital Butinar. You don't have to finish post for your November Write Club goal. You could set a goal like finish editing three scenes. There's three prizes you could win this week:
1 Stage 32 Executive Pitch Session
1 Arc Studio Pro Annual License
1 Pilot or Feature Script Coverage
And at the end of the month, one Grand Prize Winner gets a Lifetime Arc Studio Pro License!

What a time!!!! Congratulations on wrapping principal photography on your feature! This is the time, as a filmmaker, that you can breathe a sigh of relief for a few seconds before the shenanigans of post lol We're so glad that you're here in the Stage 32 community and please keep us posted on how we can support your project!

Hi Vital Butinar - pleasure to get connected. I haven't had the opportunity to work on a feature film yet but thought it was cool that you are wrapping up your first one. You mentioned in your post shooting for a feature is different from shoot a commercial, what's been some of the most notable differences? What's been the biggest lesson learned now that you are all wrapped up?

Brandy Camille thank you. Oh no there's no breathing time, I jumped right into a new commercial project while I'm still working on post. I had to sync all the sounds and my partner stared the rough cut and I started dealing with the first problem that I found, which was fixing some sound issues with the sound recordings. So it's a lot of work.
I intend to keep you up to date, actually I already turned in a new blog where I wrote about the production part and after post I'll write another one about post. The one about pre-production is above.

Hey Cyrus Sales nice to meet you too. Well I've done longer shorts before so this wasn't too far off from that, basically the same thing but a couple of days longer. I loved that I was able to rehears with the actors for a solid two months before we started, I didn't like that I was the only one doing almost everything behind the scenes for organizing stuff, which made coming up for energy to direct harder. The thing that I love that I learned was that I love making feature films, it was one of the best things I've ever done in filmmaking and I hope I get to do it again many more times, preferably with a budget next time and a bigger team.
As for the difference between commercial and narrative work. Personally I find narrative work much more stimulating because you've got a screenplay and have been working with the actors a long time, so getting good shots, action and dealing with problems is easy. Where on commercial stuff basically you usually only have a shot list and a lot of the time with the actors only that day. So it's not as fun and not as creative. That's the main difference.
But like I said I love making features, it's literally what I always wanted to do.
