Has Anyone Else Had a Problem with Candace Rae Rich?

I hired Candace Rae Rich to produce a POC and Poster from my script because she was highly recommended. She wrote a contract, & I paid the deposit. All seemed well at first. Communication was good. Then came one excuse after another: she's sick, she's moving, her computer broke, she's sick again. Then nothing. No response to my emails, and she's blocked my phone number. It's hard for me to fathom that someone in the industry, listed on IMBD, and even on Stage 32, would do this. I believe she's scammed me, so I'm posting this to warn others. I think she should be banned. I would be glad to delete this post if she would at least send me what she's accomplished in 6 months so I know she's still working on it and that she truly is sick. But for now, I'm warning others of her scam.

Oh wow, Gigi, I'm so saddened to hear this sad news, For wisdom sake, legal trust, and STAGE 32 support make sure to try contacting, RB, Geoffrey, Ashley or even Kay here on Stage 32 before making a decision to release funds and your work to semingly trust worthy recommended people. That is so sad, I hope you won't make that mistake again. I hope you and your family can find enjoyment during the holidays after that sad experience.!

Thank you, Vanessa for your kind words. Since I'm a senior on fixed income, losing the deposit was a big loss.

I've run into similar situations dozens of times in the last few years. The most common one is when producers, many with IMDB credits, have contacted me saying they've been interested in getting my scripts produced. I get in touch with them and instant they want $3,800.33 to $5,000.00 collaboration fee to "Get the ball rolling" WARNING went off in my head. I know what would've happened...They would have gotten my hopes up while asking for more money with no guarantees. Never gave in. This is why when folks go on the JOBS list saying they have a script and are looking for a producer, I give them this story. I'm taking another direction starting next year.

Gigi Skolnick Thank you for posting this, and unfortunately, this is so common. I think, a good rule of thumb, "When you first begin a collaboration, you don't have to give any fee..." In acting, similar scams are common. "Agents", "managers" saying "you have to pay for a website fee, or, some sort of thing..." Nope. Speaking up about these situations only empower us!

Gigi Skolnick While you may have had a negative experience with someone, going public like this is a very poor look in the industry. You should consider taking this down and proceeding through legal process including small claims court or superior court, which is your actual recourse. By posting this, you have shown a willingness to try to embarrass someone publicly for your own reasons, which may or may not be justified to you (no one else can possibly know). Which means you just flagged yourself as someone who should not be worked with. Because you aren't keeping your own business private, it's not likely a professional will trust that you will keep their business private.

Coincidentally, I just had a network request from a Producer, again several IMDB credits. I accepted it. Waiting for a message from him outlining his plans for me and a "Collaboration Fee" he'll need upfront. I do have a standard response. (Play the game) As I said, happens all the time.

Gigi Skolnick

Wow. I'm totally surprised. I didn't know this was a common event in the industry. Shades of Harvey Weinstein. It's sad and also frightening. To Shadow: if we don't speak up, scamming will continue. I'm not a hard person to work with, quite the contrary, but I will speak up when I have been wronged.
