Happy New Year, everyone! What’s something new you want to do this year? Write a short script, film a movie, pitch live, submit to a screenplay contest, go to a networking event, etc.
It’s not really new for me but I do want to write a lot more action this year. Hoping against hope that this means I can get back to work writing Seed lol
Hi Maurice Vaughan, For me character research is consuming my time right now and I am taking the screen readers training program with Hollywood gate keeper and Carolyn Carpenter to write coverages for unproduced scripts.
Just a bit of trivia if you follow the Chinese New Year it will be the year of the Fire Horse.
Happy New Year, Darshan Jaju! It's great to rewrite old scripts with the new knowledge we have. I'm thinking about rewriting a really old script. I think it's the first or second script I ever wrote. Hope the rewrite goes great!
Hey Maurice Vaughan I want to write my feature, submit it for feedback and write a written pitch. It will all be new for me. I need that fire horse energy Rose Dupuis !
Hey, Marie Hatten. Fire horse energy. :D I'm rooting for you to reach your goals! Stage 32 has feedback services I suggest checking out (www.stage32.com/scriptservices).
Maurice Vaughan Happy New Year! Thanks for posting. So many things I want to work on this year. Film a short I co-wrote, finish my feature, collaborate more, get better at time management! And lastly, get financing to cover the costs of filmmaking!
Happy New Year, David Horton! You're welcome. I should add getting better at time management as a goal. Hope you reach your goals! I'm looking forward to seeing the short and hearing more about your projects!
This year I want to do more of the same as last year, but also- I'd love to see myself make a short film on iphone or use my small camera I have. The idea being-- just seeing it come to life- even if it's for my own portfolio-- so I can see how to better learn and grow. Also, I want to learn more about the producer side of things.
Rose Dupuis In my experience, the rabbit holes are when I go to research things and end up researching too much about them and researching other things that won't be in the script.
I've heard of other members making short films on their iphones, Cynna Ael. You could get advice in the Filmmaking/Directing Lounge (www.stage32.com/lounge/directing).
Maurice Vaughan Feliz 2026!!! Screenwriting wise, 2026 is the year of getting my two scripts getting traction, optioned and sent off to preproduction and alignment for life, get them out there and shot! And the writing whatever story needs to come through my voice.
This year I think I might take a shower. It's been a while. If I buy waterproof paper, I could write in there too. It's probably the only place I haven't yet.

Plan is simple: I have to finish my script, then send it to any opportunity that comes my way, haha.

Ah yes Maurice, those rabbit holes, found my way out for now. Entrepreneurial mind set and the internet I find I can now avoid most of them.

Research rabbit holes could be an idea for a script, Rose Dupuis. Or a scene in a script.

The only plan I have is to develop a really good horror franchise idea I've had. As ever, I start the year with the mentality I detail here.
