Saturday was a fantastic night of formal fun. the Director’s Guild Awards Dinner is a celebration of directors and their teams. Directors who have made their marks on all of us were there from Christopher Nolan (‘now DGA President), Steven Spielberg, Guillermo Del Toro, Ryan Coogler and so many more. As a DGA member and an assistant director it’s a night we can attend without needing to be nominated. Friends and co-workers together. There is also an award for best new director…amazing group of. nominated directors.

Phenomenal directors, Xochi Blymyer! I didn't know there was an award for best new director. Who won it?

Xochi Blymyer, I love how you described it not just as a celebration of directors, but of their teams and the community behind the work. Thank you for sharing this glimpse into a really inspiring evening!

Maurice Vaughan - Charlie Polinger for The Plague...which I have not seen but definitely need to! Paul Thomas Anderson won for One Battle After Another.

Yes, Ashley, it's great, each director nominated has someone (usually the actor of the movie, Hamnet had Steven Spielberg) talk on the director, then the director comes up and gives a speech. This is throughout the night. Then the winner is announced. If there are any of the AD's there, the winner usually will bring them all up on stage too.

Thanks, Xochi Blymyer. I'll check out The Plague. One Battle After Another is incredible! I went into the movie not knowing a lot about the story.
