Spy thrillers

I just finished a spy thriller script. I am somewhat biased because my background is in intelligence. I'd like to know from others if a spy thriller is a thing of the past or should I continue writing what I know?

David Taylor

Depends on the tone of the piece. There will always be a place for great spy stories. The John Le Carre ones are brilliant, very much dated in the genre, but remain a master class of period piece spy writing. They are remaking 'The Spy Who Came in from the Cold' now. for TV. The Bourne style has done extremely well. Present day ones are very high-tech and tech dates quite quickly. Good drama is always welcomed, and spy stories can deliver that in spades. One of my favorites.

Thank you Mr. Taylor! I date to the Cold War and well into 2016 as far as my career goes. I dont really watch much TV or go to the movies , so I'm kind of uninformed on whats hot these days

Zoltán Varga

Spy thrillers aren’t a thing of the past. Your intelligence background could actually be your biggest advantage authenticity can make a familiar genre feel fresh.

Eric Christopherson

I think there have been spy thrillers since talkies began in the late 20s. I think they can still work in today's world. Perhaps they could stand a reinvention of some kind now and then.
