Hello. My name is Dominic Brown and I'm a songwriter and new to screenwriting I'm 35 years old. And I live in Temple hills Maryland. I started writing when I was 12. And I have been doing it ever since then. Because I realized that I have the ability to craft good story so I decided to use my ability to entertain everybody either telling scary story or writing a song or writing a screenplay and really doesn't matter to me as long as I get you to feel something because that and what being a writer is all about. Am I right?

Dominic Brown you're absolutely right, if you make someone feel something, you've done the job. I come from a similar place myself, working across both scripts and music, so I get exactly what you mean. What pulled you toward screenwriting after years of songwriting?

Dominic, yes — I think you’re absolutely right. Whether it’s a song, a scary story, or a screenplay, if the audience feels something, the story has connected.
I also think your songwriting background could become a real strength in screenwriting because both forms depend so much on rhythm, emotion, and knowing when to say more with less. Welcome to screenwriting, and I hope you enjoy discovering what your voice becomes in this new format.

Ah, I love this post, man. Especially the last couple of lines. This is what writing what you want is all about. No one has ever succeeded writing for the market. Writing from your soul is what comes through on the page.

Dominic Brown, welcome to Stage 32!
My name is Ashley Smith, and I’m the Head of Community here at Stage 32. So glad you jumped into IYW to introduce yourself!
I love that you’ve been writing since you were 12. That’s over two decades of honing your creative voice, and it absolutely shows in how you talk about your craft. And you’re 100% right, connecting with audiences and making them feel something IS what being a writer is all about, whether that’s through a song, a screenplay, or a scary story around a campfire. The ability to move people is the through-line that ties all storytelling formats together, and it’s wonderful that you understand that so deeply.
I’d love to hear more about what you’re currently working on! Are you focused on any specific screenplay right now, or are you in the exploration phase of figuring out what stories you want to tell in this new medium? And what draws you to the horror space in particular?
