So this guy walks into an industry.
That would be me, with three shorts under my belt in three different countries, including Ukraine. I'm also making gains with my feature and a serious producer, but I do find myself with bandwidth to create more.
I have a finished script that would categorize as a long short, under 30 mins. It's set in the real world, but its core of the premise is supernatural, so sci-fi it is.
For the production, I really don't want to gather a crew and cast unless I could get solid funding, and right now, I'm focused on securing funding for my feature. So, for my sci-fi:
- Is AI an option for the production? Of course it is technically, but...
- If one were to do a film using AI tools and put it out there at festivals, would that be seen as sacrilegious in the industry?
- Is this something that will change in the year ahead?
Again, the script is done, and it has not been at all generated by AI. I'm looking at the production.

I've watched the likes of Photoshop, CGI, digital photography, and various eras of the internet come along, with people adamant that the technology is evil and that anyone who adopts it is set to be banished.
Despite the narrative that filmmakers should never use AI, a recent article revealed that all the big productions are already in bed with it, mainly in ways you'd never notice.
The most anti-AI people I see are the ones one forums or posting on social media. They tend to be nobodies on a moral crusade, and their voices are loud within their own echo chambers. They have dumbed the whole thing down to "AI bad", and while their criticisms are valid, the future is inevitable, and just like I saw with those previous technology waves, they'll eventually end up desperately trying to jump on the bandwagon when it's picked up a lot of speed.
That all said, I think it's still way too early for amateurs to jump on this as the results I've seen aren't worth it. The leading-edge stuff is remarkable, but the best most normal folk can hope for is a bunch of inconsistent uncanny-valley scenes, with moments so weird they pull people out of the story.

...and I've noticed there's already an ALL AI film festival that just popped up. I got some shade using a pitch board that AI generated after it read my script.

Jack Vincent "Blacklisted" formally not, but no one with any sense would or should deal with you if they smell AI. 1. Copyright is gone out the window, so you have NO IP in your AI generated work. 2. Your AI generated work could however, plagiarize copyrighted work that it has been trained upon, so... you know. 3. By definition, LLMs and SLMs generate statistical averages, which means that it is mediocre, middle of the pack output at best. No one wants to invest in that. Finally... what actual writer doesn't want to write? That indicates that person isn't a writer.

Jack Vincent In sales and pitching, "something": is not necessarily better than nothing. Assuming your graphic is intended to be a serious sales tool, in other words that it should stand out and be memorable, then do not use AI unless you are going to edit it up and make it memorable. GenAI is good for infographics and certain internal ideation and sometimes to implement an actual original idea you have, but those functions actually require the paid versions of the services, and even then you have to edit them directly. Honestly, I see literally the same faces (or their siblings) in the same statistically averaged style and set-up, on AI generated posters coming at me at least twice a week. In two cases, the character was identical in all aspects (because apparently AI thinks there are only three Black people on the planet). I makes me yawn and move on.
