Hello all. This one is for the producers (or those looking to get in the producing game) As the one that actually seeks out the money to begin the process, what is it that you look for in a production to even take the chance on trying to make a movie into a reality? Strong script? Crew? Reputation? Resume? What? What makes you believe in a project?

Strong script. And not just strong. I look for a script that I believe will attract excellent talent.
Thanks for your response Marcus.

I do mostly editing, but what I look for in a film project is the storyline. Who, what, when and where is the conflict and how you plan to solve that conflict. Is the person who going to see your film is going to walk away a more conscience minded person. If you can appeal the basic human element, in my opinion it will sell.

Definitely story and the visual style of the director. Past work is a big plus, you'll and see a lot of people who talk a good game, but very few who have the work to back it up. When someone show me their past work and it doesn't have to be a traditional reel you can see who has a grasp of film making and who doesn't. It has nothing to do with education or even experience although it doesn't hurt to have both. It is the way they see things, you can tell a Coen brothers movie (well most of the time) or Hitchcock or a Spielberg movie it has a very definite visual style or signature if you will. That's why some director do some genre really well they just know how to tell a story in their element. Most directors are trying to find and define themselves, there's no clear path. I don't believe it can taught it's something that develops over time. The same can be said about writers.
