Advice

I am currently editting a short and my goal is to get start getting it made. I know it is a broad question, but what tips? It is a sci-fi emotional drama. I just, as a writer, want to get one made. And I don't have amazing experience in developing a movie so any advice is much appreciated. Thank you :)

Local colleges often have theater classes or even film classes . Where there are actors there are usually directors. Many directors are looking for short screenplays. Right here on stage 32 there are producers and directors - some looking for short screenplays.

William Martell

In my experience, shorts are usually just made by the writer/director/producer. That's what I did. I had a day job to support my film habit. Because in the USA there is no market for shorts, there are no investors... so you're kinda on your own.

You can be pro-active or re-active about it. You can list your short on directories, sit back and send it out to directors/actors/producers who request to read it and hope someone wants to make it (worked for me) or you can actively search through the lounge here where some film makers are asking for scripts. Film students are you best bet as they have cost-free resources to work with.

Adam Del Giudice

Film schools are full of screenwriters and writer/directors. Personally, I would advise you to look for small, break out indie film production companies who have a little bit of money behind them and the time and equipment to get things moving.
