My writing style...

What is your writing style? Or routine? I like to sit at my computer with refreshments and my music on. When I write I like to feel like I am at the scene and just writing what I see going on. If that makes sense. And the music has to fit the scene. If I am writing a chase scene I need something that gets the blood going, church scene I need Gospel music on. Lol Writers are weird, but I am most comfortable around weird people dont know about you. New to Stage32 this is just a another way to say hello so, Hello! a

Theresa Clark

Classical music has a cinematic feel to it at times. Sometimes I'll let it play in the background while I write out dramatic scenes in particular...

I like to write in silence. I love music, but it's too distracting. I'll go to the library if I feel I've been neglecting my script too long. And with all that, it can take 15-60 minutes to get into the scene and heads of my characters. It all depends on how focused I am.

Tony McFadden

Writing the first draft is the best part of the process for me. Once I've plotted my story (kind of essential in murder mysteries), I put Zoe Keating's cello on my ipod and write. I've had 8000 word-a-day days with her music. It seems to alter my brain state so that I'm almost in a trance. With the plot dictating what needs to be written next I am enveloped in the my characters' world.

Hey I Humble :) Like most writers I'm always writing in my head at least. But in terms of routine I get up every morning, I make a cup of tea, I sit at my desk and I write for around 8 to 9 hours. Sometimes its fun, sometimes it's hard, often I need music and often I need silence.

Robert Sprawls

I'll add to my previous to say, I'm probably more productive at night. I worked third shift for well over a decade and now I'm just a natural night owl. The high hours of quiet and solitude help with the focus.

Thanks for the comments folks very cool to hear how you all work. Theresa I have never thought about using Classical music and it makes me say DUH that makes a whole lot of sense cant wait to try it. Robert I get that too trust me I understand how hard writing can be. I did 16 pages in 2 days recently and was telling people really proud of myself. Hadn't wrote more than a page a day in years. Tony I am green with envy. 8000 words a day? bowing that very impressive. CJ I look forward to the day when I can get up and put in a 8 hour writing day instead of a 8 hour workday. That is awesome. Hey there Kathryn. I like the way you roll. lol I write anywhere too my kids can even tell now they will stop me when they see I am not paying attention to them and ask where I was. lol Dan you tolerate writing? Never heard that before. Interesting.
