WITHOUT A SOUL

WITHOUT A SOUL
By Abdusamad Shafiev

GENRE: Fantasy, Drama
LOGLINE:

A young student who has survived a terrible accident gains the ability to see the souls of living people, but his gift becomes a curse when he meets a girl whose soul he cannot see, and a serial killer hiding in the shadows of the university.

SYNOPSIS:

Tony is a student with a unique and debilitating gift: he sees people's true souls. This ability allows him to manipulate others, feeding his arrogance, but dooms him to boredom and loneliness. His life is complicated by amnesia: he does not remember anything about the events before the car accident four years ago. To cope, he created Tiv in his mind — a materialized inner voice, his only friend and controller.

At the same time, an elusive serial killer is operating in the city — a respected University Professor Tony, an Afghanistan veteran who hides his true nature, crippled by war and betrayal, under the mask of false emotions from special pills. His best friend is a Detective investigating a series of mysterious disappearances.

Tony's stability is shattered when he meets Loni, the only person whose soul he doesn't see. Having fallen in love, he makes mistakes, feeling the helplessness of an ordinary person. Fragments of memory pop up, and Tony realizes that his gift has made him blind to the outside world and human shells.

While working as a courier, Tony accidentally witnesses the Professor pick up a young man who was soon reported missing. Late for the bus, Tony finds himself on the highway, where he is picked up by the Professor himself. Without the pills, the Professor doesn't recognize the student, and Tony sees his monstrous soul. Tony's careless remark piques the killer's morbid interest: how did this young man figure him out?

A Professor obsessed with Tony lures him to his country house on the anniversary of his wife's death, where the Detective is also present. Tony learns the terrible truth: the Professor's wife died at the hands of foreign hired workers, and thanks to his gift, reveals her infidelity with the Detective himself. A shootout breaks out, the Detective is killed, and the wounded Tony loses consciousness. Key memories come back to him.

Shocking truth: Before the accident, Tony was a dreamer writing a screenplay about an elusive killer. His girlfriend Lonnie came up with the idea of a soul-seer hero. They were involved in an accident (the driver fell asleep), Lonnie was killed, and Tony, seeing her body, loses consciousness and, hitting his head, falls into a coma. His mind has created a complex hallucination: he is the main character of his script with the gift of seeing souls, the Professor is an idealized villain, and Tiv and the invisible soul of Loni (named Lonnie) are the products of his traumatized consciousness.

After recovering from the shooting, Tony sees the suicide of the Professor, who realized his guilt. Back at the dorm, he meets Loni, who helps him understand the horrifying reality: he is still in a coma, and his entire world is just a figment of his imagination.

To escape from the captivity of his own mind and return to the real world, Tony takes a desperate step: in his hallucinatory world, he throws himself in front of a subway train, hoping that this murder inside the dream will wake him up in real life.
