Any good free options or are the best pay service options?

Dirty little secret. No financiers are interested in investing in $250,000, to $1,000,000 "ONE OFF" films anymore unless you miraculously get an A list talent attached. And for that budget, WHAT KIND OF NAME TALENT DO YOU THINK YOU CAN ATTACH UNLESS YOU HAVE A PERSONAL CONNECTION? Think about it. Crowdfunding is the ONLY way at that budget level. Trust me I've done it. You don't need to PAY ANYONE to tell you that. JUST DON'T DO IT.

Just finished post-production on a new film I directed called "Memory Box", written and produced by writer Daniel Blake Smith of St. Louis. After spending several years writing, directing, and producing my debut feature film “Looking for the Jackalope”, I was itching to make a short film with a much quicker turn around. I came across Mr. Smith’s post online looking for a director for his short script. The story deals with dementia and how little we know about what might be locked inside someone’s mind who has this disease. I found the story both compelling and poignant, with a great surprise twist thrown in as well. With the exception of myself, all cast, crew, and post-production team were local St. Louis talent. It was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had on a film shoot and I could not have been happier with the result. Everyone was truly professional and easy to work with and it was such a pleasure to have the opportunity to direct a film written and produced by someone else.

My screenplay, "The Hunters" recently won the Bronze Award for best feature screenplay in the New York International Screenplay Competition. It was also a Nicholl Fellowship Semifinalist a couple of years ago. Any interested producing partners, please contact me at kshefelman@gmail.com. Based on a true story, it is a coming-of-age adventure about some American and French embassy kids who must fight to survive after getting stranded in the West African desert on a camping trip gone awry.

2 MOST important things when making ANY film, but especially a feature: 1) write a decent script 2) Get GREAT actors (not necessarily name actors unless you're lucky or can afford). Second most important (but it IS important) is know where to put the camera. Storyboarding helps a lot to save time and money.
