Expand postHello, fellow creatives! I'm an award-winning producer, screenwriter, director, actress, and acting coach and a member of Women in Film and Television and of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences where I have been a finalist judge for the national Emmy Awards since 1972. As an actress, I shared the stage or screen with scores of luminaries, including Sigourney Weaver, Keir Dullea, Ted Danson, Dana Delany, Elliot Gould, Jack Cassidy, Madeline Kahn, Fred Gwynne, and JoBeth Williams. I've been coaching actors for the past twenty years in New York, San Francisco, at the College of DuPage in Chicago, and, since 2000, all over Louisiana. I produce films with my students as cast and crew, and I'm currently in post-production for my sixth and seventh films, both SAG New Media features and titled "Blood Relatives" and "Connections" respectively. My SAG pilot titled "Making The Grade" that I wrote and directed was screened at last year's Mississippi International Film Festival and is an Official Selection as Best Film at the Tournament of Films Festival. I'm also honored to be an Official Selection as Best Director. Hope to be working with many of you one of these days!

Wow, Thracian, even better, that's where Spartacus hails from.
Welcome Veleka - very impressive background! Hope all's going great for you.
Very colorful and entertaining! Sometimes , oftentimes actually, I had the gates of opportunity open like that only because I was too much of a McGoo to realize that things aren't normally done a certain way ( haha ) ...so I forged on ahead! Still forging!! Thanks for your story!
Thanks Kris! Keep forging! We all have different stories waiting to be told!
I am a Canadian producer currently based out of Toronto. I bring with me some of the best crew in the world. I'm currently working to get two feature films off the ground. Let's work together!

Also, it runs like a wedding registry...SO: instead of asking for money, you can say "Hey fans, I need a Red camera and a couch & chairs for my living room set." Your contributors can purchase specific items for your film, and then they can't wait to see your film to see the couch they purchased! It's FANTASTIC. I'm dear friends with the CEO, but I'm also just a huge fan of the company and they are BLOWING up right now. I'm happy to email introduce you to get the ball rolling. Expand postHi! I just joined this weekend and I am so new to STAGE32 I am going to watch and learn...read and learn...post and learn...and look forward to all the potential of meeting with other creatives!! As a quick introduction I will say when I was five I performed "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" for my kindergarten graduation. It was me, alone on a stage, looking out into the eyes of teary parents and excitable classmates. I didn't expect the applause that erupted when I took my first bow! (Remember, I was five! The applause sounded like the fourth of July wrapped up in Christmas riding on a storm of thunder!) I was hooked. I have been blessed with a life long career in radio and television as an on air personality, voice over talent, playwright, and actress. I'm very comfortable on stage, in the studio, on the air, and behind the mic. I am a playwright and actress in the traveling comedy troupe I formed (we are currently on hiatus after 8 years)! I've worked as an extra in movies and have been a supporting actress for a PBS documentary released in 2013, and a movie to be released this spring. I just moved to the Atlanta area to pursue a career in voice overs and also to do some more acting in t.v. , movies, theater, and writing. (So much for brief right?!haha) Look forward to meeting you.
That's Great Kris! Glad to have you join up, look forward to engaging with you more here on Stage32!

I've written about it, some of my best friends moved there (and some died there) My daughter moved to Asheville (from San Diego North County) last September. So hang in, you-all in this frosty, snowy Global Warming and have a good week.

It is all inclusive monthly on-line magazine for actors all over the world and of all levels - and we especially focus on actors who have not yet moved to LA or NY - and who may never want to. As a long-time casting director, I was so tired of seeing actors getting scammed, I decided to create a safe place where actors can get real information. We welcome people who want to write articles, want to submit questions or want to let us know about something they've been cast! I want actors' feedback, as this is meant for you!

Well, 22 films in development with six completed screenplays, all of them getting what I call Musical Product Placement involving a new musical entity - band or solo act - plus half a dozen TV programs I should be pitching - that's what should be on my mind but right now, this frosty Sunday morning what's on my mind is a palm-fringed sandy beach in Central America where I want to establish the Crusoe Co-Op Let's Go Native Club.... a little bit of heaven on earth with access only by sea, surrounded by natural jungle, inhabited by other Crusoe dreamers, congenial folks with wit and kindness and fun. There will be more on all this online that one could access through Google. Ciao, Muchachos.

Expand commentYup, with the Oscars on tonight it's time to slack off. Just tried to upload 4 of the screenplays on InkTip. They have an efficient online system. It took my credit card payment without any problem and then, before I could even list the screenplays by title, never mind uploading the actual scripts, the system told me there was a problem in my logging in and it shut its doors. I wrote to them but don't expect an answer until Monday what with the Oscars and all. I'll give'em until 10 a.m. Pacific time on Monday to respond failing which I'll just have American Express block the payment. Here comes my annual Oscar exercise - watching awards given out on films I have yet to see. And there is no excuse this year because most of them have already had a few weeks in theaters. I just didn't get around to it. Happy Oscaring, all!

I usually can be found recording sound and, my other interest is photography as such I have recently moved over into camera operation. I am busy scripting a screenplay at the moment and learning quick and fast as to what's involved in producing too. I would like to develop this and get it to production for next year . I am looking forward to making some good friendships on here as well as picking up some priceless knowledge .
I was a supporting actress for an indie film in Michigan. In the Atlanta area now pursing more creative work...more acting, writing and doing voice over work. Where are you located?
Peace Andrew! Welcome!

AS a voice ator, what is the ideal length of a showreel, the ideal content, and how many showreels should one have? I personally feel that I should split my character voices and commercial voices into two separate showreels, but are there even more divisions possible? I'd appreciate your thoughts. Is there even a right answer?
YES!!

Expand commentpersonally, I wouldn't go over three minutes, and one minute should do for character voices. think of what you would want. you're getting 100s of submissions a day, how long do you want to listen to each one? it depends on the number of voices you can do. if you're another Mel Blanc, you can go longer, though you could probably get enough voices in a minute to get the idea across. so really, a minute seems plenty to me. you should have a link to more, if you can't fit what you want into a minute or two. a website with plenty of samples of varied voices and styles (commercials, characters, and narrative, logo drops) would be great. start and end with your best stuff, and leave them wanting more. you don't have to have the full commercial on the demo. just a clip of each commercial style is enough to let them know what you can do. as far as dividing into categories, I think you should only divide into what you want to do, and what you're good at. the above parenthesized list is a good start. you can categorize by type of job, but some of them have cross over. so think in terms of which types of jobs are similar and lump them together. listen to other people's reels. go online and see what others are doing. you can get a feel for what you like, and what you'd want to receive by figuring out which ones you'd hire and why. so go at it like you're the buyer in search of the perfect voice. only put your best stuff in your demo. if you're not good a logo drops, don't add that category. my best advice is, don't overthink it. just do it. the best VO reel is the one you do and send out. the one you never do because you're sweating over perfection is not going to do you any good. the more you do it, the better you'll be at it. so make a reel. listen to it. imagine someone just sent it to you. would you hire them? if not, do it again. if so, send it out.
Good advice Joe. I think I'll take it for myself! Need to get my video demo updated... Love "the best is the reel you do and send out."
