PROTECTION AGENCY

PROTECTION AGENCY
By Mark Marinaccio

GENRE: Sci-fi
LOGLINE:

When a race of alien-human hybrids arrives on Earth hoping to integrate into society, KATE PEARCE, of the newly formed REATTACHMENT AND PROTECTION AGENCY, is charged with protecting their children from being kidnapped.

SYNOPSIS:

Main Line Philadelphia, Present Day...Our hero KATE is running through the woods at breakneck speed, carrying, shielding a young child, SABRINA. The trees close in on her, narrowing her path until she's stopped. TENDRA emerges, a young woman who only moments earlier was shooting at her while Kate and Sabrina hid behind an overturned S.U.V. She drops her boot onto Kate's face. Fading, Kate is caught gazing at the distant TRAVELER SPACESHIP high above in Earth's orbit.

Flashback to one year earlier...

KATE PEARCE visits an unsanctioned doctor trying to diagnose her crippling stomach pains. In her line of work, you can't have this kind of problem. Kate's boss, DIRECTOR CLARKE, doesn't believe she's up for the challenge of being a field Agent. She proves him wrong when she takes down a BOMBING SUSPECT, though she sacrifices a child's life in the process. That earns her a spot on the newly formed, Reattachment and Protection Agency, charged with uniting alien-human hybrid children who have special abilities with their estranged human mothers.

Meanwhile, TENDRA SHADESTONE, a Traveler aboard the spaceship circling Earth, convinces her boyfriend, Kellan, to emigrate to Earth.

Almost a year later, the Protection Agency (R.P.A.) is in full swing, and Kate has been initiated as an agent. During her training, she fell in love with her superior officer, THOMPSON SHAW, who works with her on her first assignment – to safely transport CHILD 19, a Traveler named SABRINA, to her new human parents' home. Sabrina is an EMOTER, a child with special powers that can cause those around her to feel strong emotions and lose control.

When they arrive at the parents' home and an UNSEEN FORCE attacks the R.P.A. unit, the mission is compromised.

That is the teaser scene playing out in real-time. Agent Shaw is injured, forcing Kate to leave him behind as she escapes with Sabrina. In the forest, Kate, hindered by the pain in her stomach, gets stopped by Tendra. They've never met, but Tendra is infamous. She assures Kate that they're on the same side before knocking her out and taking Sabrina.

A flashback reveals that Tendra did indeed immigrate to the U.S. with Kellan, but they get separated when Kellan gets locked up by immigration enforcement, leaving Tendra alone and desperate. When they finally meet up again in person, Kellan is killed by an angry mob of Humans who oppose the Traveler's citizenship.

Kate seeks out Grimm Morro's help, a well-known illusionist who was also once a Special Agent with Homeland Security. Morro is a remote viewer and helps locate Sabrina, but he can't be trusted.

Kate finds Sabrina and other Traveler children with Tendra, but they warn Kate that there is a threat against all Traveler children, and they need to work together to fight. Not only that, but Kate's stomach pain is due to a scar – the scar of a Traveler baby she didn't know she gave birth to. Kate strikes a deal to take Sabrina and let the rest go.

Using their combined powers, the children open a portal which they use to disappear. Kate takes Sabrina out to her superiors, where she places Sabrina in the care of Ringbak Arr, the Traveler leader. Kate fights that decision but is told to back down by her superiors.

She's conflicted and upset but has little time to process as she and Grimm must move on to their next assignment, protect and deliver another Traveler Child, a TOCKER, with the ability to slow time down.
