WEALDMOUNT HOUSE
By Luke Anthony Walker

GENRE: Thriller, Horror
LOGLINE: After surviving a near fatal car accident, a university art student is reluctantly whisked away to a remote and desolate house by her overprotective military father, who's harboring a terrible secret she must never discover.

SYNOPSIS:

Swati, a talented art student, survives a life-threatening car accident and is reluctantly taken to a secluded house by her overprotective father, Gyan, just until she fully recoveries from her injuries. Once there, strange occurrences unfold in the old property. Swati unknowingly paints a picture of a young boy standing in her bedroom window in the day, then at night she experiences a disturbing recurring nightmare of self-harm, and is haunted by a particular song which keeps playing on an old radio at the exact same time every night. Swati suspects supernatural forces are at work, but Gyan dismisses her claims, attributing them to her head injury. The arrival of Farrouk, a friendly wildlife photographer, prompts Swati to uncover the truth. Secretly using Farrouk's phone, she contacts her boyfriend Akeem and discovers that her supposed accident was unknown to anyone; instead, people believe she just suddenly quit university without explanation and moved away. Swati realizes her father has been deceiving her. Further investigation reveals Farrouk's true identity and his collaboration with Gyan to keep her at the house indefinitely. Determined to escape, Swati stops taking her supposed prescribed medication and tries to flee in the middle of the night, but is pursued back inside by two hideously burnt figures. Overwhelmed by fear, she reaches a state of catatonia, prompting Farrouk to release her from the hypnosis he had placed upon her days earlier. Swati's repressed memories resurface. She recalls the accident and the tragic deaths of the married couple she collided with. She vividly remembers the song playing on the car stereo, and the boy in the backseat, begging for her help before their car exploded. Overwhelmed by guilt, Swati also recollects her suicide attempt and how Gyan saved her, bringing her to Farrouk, a psychiatrist who used a controversial method involving hypnosis and medication to suppress her traumatic memories. She refuses further treatment, feeling undeserving of forgetting and being free of her crippling guilt. Swati believes she only deserves death. Gyan, however, orders Farrouk to administer the treatment against her will again, suppressing her memories once more....for now. 'Wealdmount House' is a chilling psychological horror that delves into the strained relationship between a father and daughter, and the things he's prepared to do to protect her - even against her will.
