In the midst of a nervous breakdown and battling his own demons, a disgraced Los Angeles detective sets on a high-stakes mission to locate an American infant abducted by a Mexican immigrant risking a re-crossing of the Mexico-United States border with the baby.

SYNOPSIS:

Ana Flores leaves El Salvador only to be thrown into a whirlwind of corruption: America. A place where immigrant women fall victim to opportunists.

Ana kidnaps Nicole and Paul Conway's newborn son, setting off a frantic chase. Amid the turmoil, Detective Miller, who is grappling with a nervous breakdown, uncovers the truth about Ana's past.

The Conways' marriage is on shaky ground after suffering their third miscarriage. They think having a baby would solve everything. Meanwhile, Ana is on her way over the bumpy, dark, and clandestine border from her impoverished town in El Salvador to join her husband, Ricardo Flores, in what he imagines to be the promised land - California.

Enter Border Patrol Officer Cox, a man with a sinister agenda, who enjoys rounding up loads of illegal immigrants and handpicking a young girl from every fresh lot who will serve as his next victim. Officer Cox has his way with Ana and dumps her at a local gas station, violated, frightened, humiliated, and destroyed. When Ricardo reunites with her, he finds his wife irrevocably changed. The couple attempts to rekindle their former happiness, but the harsh realities of life in Trump's America take a toll.

Nicole and Paul, feeling incomplete and inadequate, yearn for the child they can't conceive. When Ana discovers she's pregnant with Officer Cox's child, she initially resists abortion due to her strong Christian faith. However, Ricardo's pressure sways her. At the abortion clinic, she meets Paul, the doctor assigned to perform the procedure. Ana, however, breaks down and is unable to go through with it.

Paul sees the opportunity and goes for it. He offers Ana money and a loving home for her baby. She accepts. Ana gives birth to a healthy boy who is immediately adopted by the Conways. Ana struggles with her burgeoning maternal instincts while Ricardo grapples with jealousy.

Nicole can't wait for her newly purchased baby to fill the void she perceives in her life. She dotes on him, but he'll have nothing to do with her. He refuses to eat. Nicole is at a loss. Paul brings Ana to the rescue. Ana breastfeeds her son, and their bond grows, much to Nicole's displeasure. This tension leads to Ana and Ricardo's separation.

Ana soon realizes her mistake in giving up her son and decides to kidnap him and flee back to El Salvador. Now an undocumented citizen, carrying a baby not legally hers, and running from a powerful couple, she fights for her life.

But to her surprise, Detective Miller -- a man who was dismissed from the Los Angeles police force for assaulting an illegal immigrant and who blames Mexican drug cartels for his daughter’s drug overdose death -- tries to redeem himself. He sympathizes with Ana's plight and attempts to convince her to surrender before she and her son are seriously hurt or even killed.

In the end, Ana must outsmart her opponents, trust no one, and find a way to get her baby across the border...

But will she succeed?
