Desperate to reach her autistic son Karl, special educator Mary Kenning gets him a mysterious new computer game that changes everything she knows about autism and her child.
SYNOPSIS:
It’s hard enough to raise a 12-year old boy, but when he’s autistic, you have to fight a war. A two-front war. Or so special educator Mary Kenning finds as she struggles to help her son Karl deal with the world, and fights the world to deal with Karl. When Mary turns for help to a new computer game, Karl shows immediate improvement, but he cannot put the game down. Karl stays up all night and appears to develop an entirely new language. And when strange things start to arrive in the mail, Mary begins to suspect an evil motive behind 'A-Kids Rock.'
But extracting Karl from the game proves to be much more difficult than Mary thought. She finally gives in, but not long after Mary finds that Karl has been planning a secret trip to New York City with his neighborhood sidekick, 11-year old Kara, to attend an oddly under-promoted game convention. Mary’s worries compound when an agent from Homeland Security shows up to recruit the family as informants. The search for answers leads Mary to a new understanding of autism and her son.
