FIGHTING WORDS
By Roberto Negron

GENRE: Action
LOGLINE:

When a temp-worker alienates himself after complaining about a social movement to a controversial news channel, he must rely on his self defense skills to protect himself and his family from those who have a bone to pick with him.

SYNOPSIS:

When Rafael Morales, a temp-worker who dabbles in martial arts skills, learns that his cousin, and his cousin's long-time girl are pregnant with their first child, the exciting news prompts Rafael to brave the shopping malls on Black Friday and buy gifts for the expecting couple, only to have a run-in with BLM protesters who are trying to raise awareness about police brutality by boycotting Black Friday and not allowing patrons into the stores to shop. When Rafael tries and fails to reason with the BLM protesters, he is left with no other choice but to fight his way inside the mall. Once inside the mall, a newswoman approaches Rafael with her camera crew to get his side of the story. After telling his side of the story to the newswoman, it isn't long before Rafael is reeling from the effects of cancel culture. When his interview with the newswoman finally airs, there is no place in New York City where Rafael can go without getting recognized and confronted by liberals because of the unflattering comments he made about BLM protesters. And when someone close to Rafael is suddenly taken from him in a random act of street violence, the Mayor of New York, who is suspected of being a White Supremacist by many, reaches out to him, and his grieving family to offer his condolences, and also to see if he and his family would be good enough to meet with him for a televised event. Rafael accepts the mayor's invitation but can't shake the feeling that he, and his family are being used as props to help him push some right-wing agenda onto the people of New York. And on the night of the televised event, the mayor takes a moment during his "State of the city address" speech to introduce Rafael, and his grief stricken family to the world, asking them to come up and join him on the stage. That is when Rafael decides to call out the mayor by daring him to denounce white supremacy, and his right-wing donors, once and for all, in front of everyone in attendance. As one would expect, this does not sit well with the right-wing community. So, when a small group of right-wing extremists show up at Rafael's house to make an example out of him, Rafael has to rely on his self-defense skills to stay alive and turn the tables on them.
