I realize I can go to the SAG website for this. But, I trust the suggestions my fellow Stage 32 creatives have given me over the last 2 years. I am a screenwriter/director/producer based out of Manhattan, New York City. I currently have (3) copyrighted scripts ready to go to production. I have very limited $$'s. I have cast the first (2) and thanks to a modest crowdfunding campaign just completed on INDIEGOGO I do have enough $$ to rent space for (2) table reads. The big $64,000 question is can I ask my actors to do the Table read for free? I do not want to damage relationships that I have built with these 56 Union/Stage32 actors. If anyone out there knows what the exact guideline is according to SAG/AFTRA/EQUITY I would appreciate it. If you can furnish me a link fine. My production company: CITY & SUBURBAN MOTION PICTURES LLC will have our first executive committee meeting on January 29th to discuss how to allocate the $700 we raised. Any help would be most appreciated. Yours Truly, Steven Harris Anzelowitz President & Head of Story City & Suburban Motion Pictures,LLC https://igg.me/at/z08bEZJ2QAk https://igg.me/at/ReidB-Dg9Z4

I would use non union for the table read. I wouldn't pay folks until you do something "public"

To be frank, I would contact SAG themselves about this. This way you know what you need to do so that way you DON'T mess the relationship up with the actors. It's better when dealing with SAG to be safe then sorry. This way it helps you in the future to figure out if you want to use SAG actors or not.
I've learned to only use sag or equity when I'm about to hire someone.

If I'm reading this correctly, he has the roles cast for the for his first film and wants to use the actual cast for the table read. Have they signed contracts? Are you (eventually) shooting this under an experimental or Utra-low budget agreement (whatever SAG currently call this)? If so then you don't have to pay them as you would be paying them as per SAG contract rules if your projects makes money. Call SAG/Aftra to be sure.

What JD said. I'm assuming the table read is for the actors you've cast? If so, I believe it's treated like a rehearsal. And it will depend on which SAG agreement you're using. They have rate sheets for each type of production (short, feature, commercial, new media) and budget.
