How To Become An Actor- Talent Manager Advice

FOR BRAND NEW PEOPLE IN USA

Here are the 10 things you should start doing before you are even ready to be seen or heard by a manager or agent:

1. Learn How to Act! Before you do ANYTHING else, get into tons of acting classes (scene study, on-camera acting, and improv);

2. Get professional headshots;

3. Create acting profiles on these three legit online casting sites: Casting Networks / LA Casting, Actors access, and Backstage. Call their companies about how to do it or watch their video tutorials. Having profiles is imperative and a key to getting seen;

4. Record a HD clip of a monologue or short scene using good lighting, good sound in front of a blank wall;

5. Upload your clip(s) to your online profiles (Actors Access and to YouTube. Then repeat until you have 4-5 clips or various attitudes and emotions;

6. Create a pro looking resume;

7. Submit yourself DAILY on those 3 casting sites;

8. Book a 5-10 short films, student films, and web-series;

9. Add your bookings and acting classes to your hard copy and online resumes as you go; and,

10. Upload 3-4 30 second clips to your online profiles.

At that point, THEN present those to a manager or agent! If you come to the game not prepared with the core basics, you will not be taken seriously so please follow these minimum items to set yourself up for success!

If you are fortunate enough to be asked to sign to a manager or agent, we also suggest you have a seasoned entertainment lawyer review your contract to ensure there are not overly aggressive, non-customary, or predatory terms. In many states, including California, for agents their contracts must be approved by the labor commission. Management contracts are not governed by a governing body like agents are, so it is especially important to have management contract reviewed.

OTHER COUNTRIES

Actors who live in another country who don’t live in a major film market:

1. Get acting classes local where you can at school or from actors/directors at theater companies;

2. Take online classes with teachers in LA (i.e. Actorsite, Margie Haber Studios, Shari Shaw Studios, Matt Newton, Judy Kain)

3. Find other creative people who are working together on film projects;

4. Assemble your own group of creatives to create your own webseries on YouTube;

5. Attend any film festivals in your own country and meet as many people as you can. Stay in touch with them, volunteer To PA on their projects. Audition for their projects;

6. Volunteer to work at film festivals on your country so you can meet Industry people to collaborate with.

7. Do as much theater as you can;

8. Study business AND the Business of Acting. Read everything you can About it! Read articles in Backstage.com (http://backstage.com/?fbclid=IwAR1X6_9iZA-IbTw6yVjXRN7JGa8DN7ecn8f48-__h...);

9. Get an agent in your country and do whatever work you can do;

0. Try to get a scholarship to study acting in another country like US or London

11. MOVE when you are educated and experienced enough and consider your long term goals and the location you need to be.

12. Talk to an entertainment attorney with questions about VISAs although know that receiving certain VISAs require a production or studio sponsor. If you are a student studying in the states, you can try to convert your student VISA to a limited working VISA although likely (please speak to counsel first) if you do a student film while in college you are permitted to do this work as part of your education. But do not violate VISA rules – it is better to obtain the right clearances than risk being kicked out of the country!

"The Hollywood Winners Circle Academy is one of those resources I wish I had 10 years ago. I would have saved years in the wrong direction. It’s the best advice for building an acting career out there. As a working actor who has appeared in TV some 40 times and booked network TV without an agent, I am assuring you that you can save the 5 years I wasted trying to figure out the correct path to the gatekeepers that will let you in the door. You cannot book studio films or network tv without “knowing how”. It’s that simple. You need to know the path. It doesn’t and will not fall out of the sky. Check out Wendy’s Hollywood Winners Circle Academy and get on the fast track. TIME is your most precious asset."
