Anything Goes : Fraud and deceit by Scott Bernstein

Fraud and deceit

I am new here and in a short time, I have been approached by a couple of some unsavory people that are not who they say they are. They gloat about their backgrounds, associations, abilities, etc when in fact they have little if any experience and no success. I understand that there is not perfectly monitored site on the Internet but is anything verified here? If not, is there a complaint and review board so to speak?

Amanda Toney

Hi Scott, Unfortunately with every website there is a potential for fake accounts or false credentials. We do our best to monitor, but my advice is to use your best judgement and common sense, and only interact with individuals who you feel are legitimate, which there are definitely a lot of here. Don't less the bad eggs spoil the entire site for you.

Sylvia Marie Llewellyn

Very interesting Scott. How do you know they're not who they say they are? And why would they be on this site I wonder.

Scott Bernstein

Sylvia - I have been an Investigator by trade for 28 years but you really do not have to be. There are sites that actually ask me to investigate matters and thousands have hired me to conduct background checks. If someone says they have done this or that, it is very simply to verify it on the Internet. Are you aware that Craigslist, Backpage and even Facebook are the biggest pimps on the Internet? I deal with Human/Sex Trafficking for a living. 99% of the populace are not aware of the very fact nor that there is a million or more children that are sex slaves in the world. New Rochelle NY was just listed as one of the top in the nation recently. The reason these people are on any site is to profit off victims. Did you ever hear of the Nigerian telmarketing or Internet scams that has been going on for decades and has sprout into hundreds of other scams? No offense but it is time to smell the coffee. There are imposters in every industry. I could write a book about it. My post just simply asked a question as Craigslist does have a way to report but actually does little if not anything. LinkedIn does and 50% of the times does take action. Craigslist and Backpage are notorious and just want to profit on it. Overall, 99% I have met some great amazibng people here and looking to get my stories out there to the public. Have a great weekend to all.

It depends, George LOL. Let me know.

@ Scott Bernstein - - the screenplay I am working on has a handsome PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR as the leading man. JENNICE, the protagonist, is an artist who is invited to England by an uncle she's never met. Her parents (deceased) told JENNICE stories about this bachelor uncle, who worked in India. JENNICE is his sole heir. Unknown to JENNICE: her uncle and a partner did some artifact looting. The PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR, hired by an insurance company, follows JENNICE to the UK, thinking she might reveal something. When they meet, there is a mutual attraction, etc. When the script is ready, would you be willing to look at the dialogue for the P.I., please?

Re: fraud and deceit - - there are young actors on Stage 32. If anyone comes across a registered SEX OFFENDER, pls report this.

LindaAnn Loschiavo

@ George - sex offenders are required to REGISTER in a db. A show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" (featuring children in Georgia) was cancelled when reporters looked into this db and found the child molester "Mama June" Shannon was dating. This convicted sex offender had molested her daughter Anna. When he got out of jail, June began dating him again. This db is very useful. FACEBOOK periodically scans it and pulls those accounts.

@ George Evans Pierson - - if YOU suspect an individual (here on Stage 32 or on another site) is behaving in an untoward or suspicious manner, you can always check them out. Creeps lurk everywhere. Speaking for myself, I have met very nice people here so far and I have not seen any "red flags."

Do your own due diligence. It's easier today than ever before; IMDb credits from before about 2006 were generally hard-earned and only for real, released works... now, any homemade web series is eligible to be listed. If a person isn't on IMDb at all, and claim to have worked film, that is suspect- unless they strictly work in development. Slated.com has some legitimacy for those folks. You need to look at the credits, and who these people have worked with. And of course, ask for a reference. Is someone says they work with CAA, ask for their contact there. Then call. It's business. And your business is to be professional.

@George - I would be very happy to look at your crime scene. I have been at countless crime scenes and investigated them and worked hand in hand with forensic pathologists and closed many cold cases. @LindaAnn - it has been a pleasure connecting with you. It would also be a great pleasure working on your screenplay with you. If you have yet to complete it, I may have some suggestions you may be interested in. Please connect with me outside of Stage32 at usahunt@aol.com.

I've met one person on here who padded there resume and met with under the auspices of directing a screenplay I wrote, but his true intention was to ask me for $20,000 to draw a graphic novel version of the screenplay. I turned him down and will monitor his IMDB page in case he tried to pull scenes from my film for his own projects. Basic street smarts will prevent most con artists from duping the real ones on Stage 32.

Thanks Royce - very sage advice. @Tony - send me a message on any updates. Sorry to hear about that.
