Invites

hello all this is such a super site, lotsa talent here for sure. ok, now that the (honest) formalities are done, this is what is on my mind... i am relatively new on this site. i love to talk anything about films, especially loglines and to a lessor extent format issues, but really anything. the deal is that i've already received 35 invites. no offense and please excuse me if i am getting this all wrong, but i do not wish to be in a facebook deal where i can have 4,000 "friends" and not talk to any of them. adding names just for the sake of adding names do not seem to be a happening thing with me. please don't get me wrong. i am not stuck up, nor even if i was i'm not accomplished enough to be stuck up. i'll chat all day about the most minor of issues if i feel that i am connecting with another person regarding their project, but i cannot see the value of having all sorts of invites when i don't know what they might want from me or like my opinion on, or... i just don't want to be on someone's friend list or whatever just for the sake so they can have yet another "friend" or whatever. it just clogs up my computer and makes me wonder why the person invited me or what i can do for them or what they can do for me. i'm sure it is a friendly way to build contacts and that is fine but what is the use if there is no real reason to chat with them? please, if you wish to add me as a contact, feel free to do so but first send me a message on why. to cut to the chase i am not famous, never made, sold or optioned a movie, i know nobody in hollywood, etc. i did write a script and some other things but nothing to warrant fame status for sure... i will get my movie made someday somehow but then again i'm a hopeless romantic and dreamer. i do have plans to get my movie made but it is my belief that anyone who gets their movies made does it in a way that nobody else can or does. if you just need a contact who is interested in films and having nothing else in particular to talk about at the time... that is fine with me. or if you say you like my script or logline or anything else really. maybe you live close to me? or maybe you just want to tell me my script sucks. i'd love to chat with any of you but i don't want hundreds of strangers on my wall nor accept invitations from others just to add to their stats nor to add to mine. i would like to get to know you and feel that you would like to get to know me (professionally of course) so i can talk to you on a more personal basis. does any of this make sense? now, if i got this all wrong or somebody could straighten me out on this i am more than willing to admit i was completely ignorant about my post here. just chalk it up to being a newby and feel free to let me know what the real deal is here! as i already said, i'm not famous enough (under my author name here anyways) to warrant attention except possibly offer some very questionable advice or a perspective or just listen to whatever you have to say about your or my projects. stephen thor p.s. excuse all lowers, i type like that in a casual situation...

A AA

Hi there Stephen! When I first created a profile on here, I was getting (and still am) all sorts of random requests from people I didn't know, from people in other countries, from people who I had no idea why they would add me. I almost didn't give this thing a chance, because I came on here to "network" not to be just added by someone who I never met, and to be, kind of just added at a glance, gosh I can't really explain myself right now lol but you get what I mean. I then participated in the free webinar that Mr. Botto did last week, and I have to say, I am glad I did. One of the biggest things that I took out of it, was...no connection is a bad connection. Regardless of where they are or who they are, you just never know! And he has a pretty good success story about it. But I do understand about the clogging thing, I generally request people in my area without messaging them, although I really should, and I know what you mean by just "adding" people for the sake of adding people. I hope you continue on here, make some connections, participate in the lounges and just get out there, because that's what this site is all about :). Good luck!

Richard "RB" Botto

Hey Annika. Thank you very much for the good words about the webinar - and for simply taking the time to watch. I practice what I preach, I assure you. For all those who are challenged by how to network, I strongly urge you to watch the webinar. It's free!!!
