Anything Goes : What If? by William Crudup

William Crudup

What If?

Yo, it’s ReignWithWill. The Blurred Show asks the questions you didn’t know you needed to answer. Here’s one for you: Sobriety is illegal. No sober mornings. No dry nights. Could you survive in a world where everyone is constantly under the influence? I want your takes — reply, comment, debate. The craziest responses get explored in the next episode

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, William Crudup. I couldn't survive. I don't drink or do drugs. That's a unique concept though.

Snethemba Mvelase

Does influence = just drugs (eg>cocaine / painkillers)? if not, I think I'd survive.

Maurice Vaughan

Or I could survive, William Crudup, but I'd be a criminal on the run.

William Crudup

That’s a solid take, Maurice Vaughan . I’m a recovered alcoholic, so I could probably adjust for a bit — but not forever. I feel like some people would love it, but a lot would definitely end up rebelling.

William Crudup

We're talking anything under the sun that disqualifies you on a drug test. Snethemba Mvelase

Rachel Mensch

Think of all the errors being made constantly. Banking? Whooops, the decimal went into the wrong place and Jim Bob just got an extra million bucks. Lawyers defending their clients? Probably not going to go well. High school kids won't learn a thing, and the military will be no better than Darth Vader's stormtroopers, who couldn't hit a thing. It would be a complete disaster, but what a fascinating idea to explore!

William Crudup

Why would you be on the run?Maurice Vaughan

William Crudup

Man, you nailed it

Maurice Vaughan

That could be a hit movie/show, William Crudup. You said sobriety is illegal, so I'd go to prison, and I'm not going to prison. I'd go on the run.

Maurice Vaughan

Actually, now that I think about it, William Crudup, I could survive in that world, but I wouldn't be able to live a normal life.

I think it depends on how severely the brain is affected by this prolonged period of intoxication.

Everyone would need long-term psychological treatment for their addiction.

The real problem is that if the madness becomes global, even doctors and psychologists would be affected and in need of treatment themselves.

Our last hope would be robots — but only if they were already prepared and programmed to handle such a crisis.

Thank you for this question; I really enjoy thinking about large-scale Earth crises like this.

William Crudup

I love your response and it hits some very powerful points. Thank you and your welcome.Meriem Bouziani
