Had this random tune playing in the background while writing, and for some odd reason, it transported me—like I was a kid again, sitting at my little table eating oatmeal, watching Trading Moms. There’s this one garden scene in the movie with a specific sound that always made me feel warm inside. Funny how certain sounds or music can tap into something deep like that.
Curious—do you guys write with music playing?

I mainly write without music, Chase Cysco. I write with it playing sometimes though. I listen to film scores, songs, and instrumentals.

interesting! I actually compose music , all instrumental, on guitar that is background and underscore that people have given the wildest descriptions on how it transported them! Maurice Vaughan has heard what I do.

Chase Cysco Typically no, because I'm also a composer, so my mind goes to the music which would distract me from my writing. Ironically, though, my piano instrumentals are played in the background of others who are working. They say it helps them focus and to be productive. I can't listen to my own music and get the same result. Great question and post, it's cool to know other people's processes.
Only if I'm stealing.

Chase what are your main themes and topics you write about by the way?

@kat Spencer that's ironic because I can't really listen to music when I'm doing work because I get distracted and drawn into the music LOL

Not for me - need the focus on chords, etc.
I might start trying doing the Reference type sounds and music and A / B the mix - mastering part.
