Sooooo, Any ideas on how to make a reel from the 12 plus movie productions/commercials I have been in? How do I get it all together on one disc. I don't know how to access each one. Do I need to go to the source and then download all onto a disc? HELP!

James Bradley

Contact the people who made the work and request a digital file of each piece, then import it all into something like iMovie and use only 5 of your favourite most "sellable" clips, make sure that each of the clips are lit well, and show you playing at your best. A soft gentle audible music is good, you can get free royality-free music from www.mobygratis.com and you can learn simple editing skills direct from youtube. if you don't have a mac use the Microsoft movie maker, once done export to file, create a Vimeo account, upload the file and link all of your job apps to that showreel. Nobody wants DVD's anymore. Vimeo is better quality and you can monitor the view count. If you have an agent, be sure that they advise on your clips and add the link to their website under your headshot. Best of luck.

Wow! Great to get that info from you James Bradley. I appreciate it very much and will get right to it. Thanx old chap!

James, that is a great synopsis. I do feel like I have to point out, only to avoid headaches for you in the future, that mobygratis does not allow for the use of demo reels. http://www.mobygratis.com/faq It's a little gray, but I'd be safer than sorry when it comes to rights management. I would check out this page: http://www.seabreezecomputers.com/tips/freemusic.htm. But make sure you see, somewhere on each site you use, the terms and conditions. It's helpful to look for creative commons, but make sure you choose attribution only. Ping me if you want to know more.

Better than that, get those clips to a demo reel editor who knows what they're doing so they can create a reel that highlights your BEST performances and sells you and your brand. Most actors don't know how to cut a reel of their own performances just like they don't know how to shoot their own headshots. LOL! And posting your stuff on Vimeo might just get it pulled (for copyright reasons) if you don't know what you're doing and the stuff is owned by someone else (like studios, etc.) If you need an editor, I know one who can do the work for either in person or online -- he cuts all my films for me and he also works for most of the major actors I know, cutting their demos.

Basically Walter, you need to have copies of your work. You can then take those copies to a local Editor – explain to him/her what you want. He/she should be able to cut & paste them into a simple reel for you. I do this type of stuff for local actors all the time (for free) but you may have to pay an Editor to do this for you over there in Utah.

Thanx to Josh, Kathi and Doug for the input on demo reels. I'm on it!
