Sundance / less streamer deals, back to more independent distribution models?

Although some big deals were closed during this first in-person Sundance since the pandemic, the market was “historically slow”. The streamers seem more cost-conscious and less prepared to write checks.

Have we reached a tipping point, and will we see the typical independent production and distribution models revive? How will this affect film production and distribution in 2023?

I think we'll see less mega deals for sure. Indie films will need to lower their budgets to under $10m to make it easier to secure distribution.
