WOW, Pat Alexander! More than $60 billion! YouTube is my go-to to watch videos and short films.

Makes sense why Ted Sarandos said YouTube is their biggest competitor. YouTube Red and then Premium never really took off on the scripted side but it's only a matter of time before they launch premium series and features that will capture the zeitgeist

YouTube is no longer just for amateurs. When it's taking that much out of the industry, and when people like Mark Fischbach (markiplier) are pulling in millions and Mr. Beast are making billions, it's way too late for mainstream to wake up. There's a new paradigm emerging, and it doesn't care about star names, mainstream distribution, or the biases of institutional funders. The trend is at the core of the FilmPod model (formerly "direct to audience") that is going to go live this spring.

Netflix has just over 300 Million subscribers. They have a lot of ground to cover which is why I think they're so adamant about the Warner Bros. deal.

it's wild to me that 325M people pay to subscribe to YT when there's so much great stuff you can watch for free, like this 2hr train ride thru Japan video: (https://youtu.be/q8nPaqfRm_c?si=GxfJhHCldkEsdcEn)

Karen "Kay" Ross

I feel ya Pat Alexander ! Some people just really hate commercials and are willing to pay. I don't usually stay on long enough to care about the commercials. But the fact that you can stream YouTube from your TV (through ROKU among others) means that if you have professional content, it can be viewed professionally, including - without commercials for a price.

YouTube's everywhere now and there's nothing stopping google from world domination. I saw Delta recently made a deal with YouTube to show YouTube premium on their plane as well. Audiences will watch influencers on the plane now.

Maria Restivo Glassner

Pat Alexander I am really enjoying the train ride. I get that the train wants to go somewhere and has an identity crisis in the tunnel, but how does it grow as a protagonist? I think if the video answers that, then maybe it will be able to garner paid subscriptions ;)

Youtube is the new stage. It allows you to get your content out to the masses without tryig to go through traditional distribution networks. The key is to get following.
