Boardwalk Empire - Season 4 Discussion Thread

OK...Who's pumped? For my money, this show has improved in each of the first 3 seasons. Previews for Season 4 look fantastic. Let's discuss!

Brad Carpenter

We had our theatrical premiere publicity event last Tuesday night at the Ziegfeld. So gratifying to see our show play in such a wonderful venue and to such great audience response. Can't wait for the rest of the world to get to experience it!

Richard "RB" Botto

Awesome news, Brad! Congratulations! Has to be extremely gratifying! I, for one, am fired up for tomorrow night. Although I know you can't give away any secrets - and I'd have you whacked if you did, I do hope you'll join the discussion here all season long! Onward and upward, my friend!

Andrea Thompson

Oh. My. Goodness. I was checking into the Breaking Bad thread tonight and stumbled across this thread for Boardwalk Empire... I am so excited this is here. I CANNOT WAIT to see where this season takes Nucky and crew. Big things are rumbling and were set up so nicely at the end of last season. I still can't believe Jimmy's dead. I have to admit there are so many times the BE theme song plays in my head randomly.

Brad Carpenter

Glad to hear it! I'll try to touch base on this discussion as the season progresses.

Christopher Lombard

Totally agree Richard, the show just seems to get better, season 3 was stunning and like you, I am very pumped to watch the new season. Going to watch S4E01 tonight.

Victoria Gates

Richard I just wrapped a Film few months ago in which I star opposite Mark Borkowski of Boardwalk Empire. I've always enjoyed the series. P.S. I just sent you a message before I saw this post. So please check them.

Lina Jones

I'm with you on that one Richard luvit, luvit, luvit! What more can I say... I've heard season 3 is going to be BADD! (in a good way) I just hope its not the last _

Richard "RB" Botto

I'm in the same boat with you guys...Been so wrapped up with Pitchfest, Actorfest, and Next Level Webinars, I haven't had a chance to watch the damn premiere yet! Tonight! It's gonna happen. And it should be worth mentioning, we have a true Boardwalk Empire celeb in our midst. The Brad Carpenter you see posting above is an executive producer on the show...Great to have him here...

Brad Carpenter

Co-Producer, kiddo, but thanks for the promotion. ;-)

Richard "RB" Botto

No, no...I had you bumped up this morning. You'll get the memo.

Brad Carpenter

Hah! Awesome. Good work!

Andrea Thompson

Wow! It's an honor to have you in this thread, Brad! I have Boardwalk Empire taped, or should I say "DVR'd" (whatever the kids are calling it these days) and am planning on watching it this week. Looking forward to a fun season-long discussion here.

A great opening episode. Some very interesting themes developing already. Looks like we are going to have a cool, in depth look at race relations this season. Maybe even more of a given since the terrific Jeffrey Wright is waiting in the wings. Also, the theme of isolation. First time we see Nucky, he's alone (looking down from high above the club) and we leave him alone on the balcony of the hotel (overlooking the boardwalk in the middle of the night). Richard is also off on his own the whole episode. Gillian is facing the future alone. Isolation...Isolation...Isolation. I'm in...

Richard "RB" Botto

Another really solid episode. Jeffrey Wright looks like he is going to provide a much more subtle and intelligent foil for Nucky than Gyp Rosetti did last season. Again, race at the forefront. Some interesting back room dealings as well. Chess pieces are now in place. Anxious to see where it goes.

Brad Carpenter

Great comments, Richard! Glad to see how it's resonating with you. Looking forward to your seeing more!

Janet Caulfield

Love this show as much as Breaking Bad.

Richard "RB" Botto

Really enjoying the ride thus far, Brad! It's an amazing show, Janet. Novelistic in its approach. Meticulously detailed. I'm catching up with the latest episodes either tonight or tomorrow.

Scott Laird Berg

Can't wait to see the Capone character continue to develop into the bad ass he became ...

Andrea Thompson

Scott - I totally agree with you. They picked the perfect actor to play Capone on this show. Brad- bravo to co-producing such an incredible show and congrats on the supporting actor Emmy (I think that was the category) RB - of course you would watch Boardwalk Empire, too. When do you have the time to do everything you seem to do?? I've really enjoyed this season so far and love how it's already in stride. I have found myself really involved in Richard and his story. The scenes with his sister are equally endearing and heartbreaking at the same time. He's such a complex man and the writers have done an amazing job with him in a supporting role. Chalky is interesting too this season. I think he hides behind his insecurities by being a flat out dick. I wonder if he has the balls to be in the executive position he's in now with the club. Curious to see where that unfolds. I like seeing Jimmy's mom just floating around. She went from such a position of power to basically just existing. She's like the Boardwalk Empire version of a modern-day celebrity. Everyone's just watching in curiosity and waiting to watch her fall. Now onto the main man, Nucky. You see him seemingly in control (as much control as he can be) this season, but what the fuck is he doing with the Florida business? Patricia Arauette's character reeks of trouble, as does the swamp land deal (or whatever it is). Is Nucky running to get away from his empire in AC that's semi-crumbling? Either way he's entertaining and a bit adrift. This makes for an already interesting season. And, that damn opening song I can never seem to get our of my head! Anyone else's thoughts?

Andrea Thompson

Loving how things are heating up between Nucky, Chalky and the doctor.... Also the storms -a-brewin for Jillian. This season has unfolded so well.... Great job to all behind Boardwalk Empire.

Scott Laird Berg

So how does a fan of the era and this killer show get a reading?

Beka I Am

I am behind 2 seasons....good to know tho!

Rachael Saltzman

Do watch the season finale of three. We did some really cool stuff.
