Greetings everyone from the warm, friendly skies of Southern Africa that is Cape Town. I am Nelson, an aspiring comedian, actor, writer and director, nowhere near as accomplished or professional as many of you but dreams to make the leap from being part-time to full time in creating wonderful experiences and providing enriching, authentic visual stories for people to enjoy.
I know the journey everyone has, and its both encouraging and heart-breaking. Most days, I watch a film or view a documentary, and I tell myself each day that tomorrow is the day that I will finally break free and become who I want to be, struggling or not. But I stare at my bank account, into the eyes of my beautiful fiancé, and fear to tread on angels' wings. What if I lose what little I have, that no one will watch or buy? What if the critics pan what I create, that buyers will dismiss me like garbage, or everyone I approach will scoff at the idea?
How do I break that pattern? Just a little each day. Just one line in a new script, just one frame in a story board. Just one tutorial to learn how to edit, to film or to light a scene. Each day, I improve by one centimetre, a little closer to the dream.
I hope the same guys for you too, those that read this. Just work it as little or as much as you can. And please, feel free to enjoy the work I've created.
