Hi, I'm a published poet and independent scholar who is evangelizing a new literary and media genre called Speculative Realism. Borrowed from the current French philosophical movement by the same name, Speculative Realism is based on the analysis of a single poem by the early 20th century Parisian poet Stephan Mallarme, The Roll of the Dice. But in doing so, defines a new paradigm for understanding our contemporary post industrial world. The literary love child of Magic Realism and Speculative Fiction, Speculative Realism doesn't ask so much 'What if?' as much as 'What will you do when?'
I'm interested in talking with anyone who is stimulated by the prospect of this new philosophical, literary and media genre. I am currently making short films for YouTube distribution based in this genre. Neither fiction nor non-fiction Speculative Realism presents a means of making sense of experience through the quantum nature of our perceptual reality. This is what I'm working within and the attached 2 minute video is an example of this genre.
Thanks for reading,
Igor

I think it sounds very interesting.
It's not an invention as much as an observation. I would put the series of Black Mirror and the film Arrival into the genre of Speculative Realism
Wow! How surreal can you get!
Huh. I wonder if I'm writing speculative realism....
