Introduce Yourself : UK to LA? by CK Goldiing

UK to LA?

Hey,

Two days into my STAGE 32 experience and I love it.

How are you all? I'm CK - from the UK (Sheffield).

Originally a TV/radio host - I transitioned into making my own unscripted stories - including short films, documentaries & social experiments. Having been featured by the BBC, Red Bull & Huff Post, I recently won two awards for my debut short film '61 HUGS'.

Is anyone on here originally from the UK and now living in LA? I'd love to chat.

Happy Monday,

Robert Russo

Used to live in the UK. I miss the authentic Indian cuisine. It was amazing. The rain, not so much.

My family actually moved to the UK for three years, just as I finished high school. My father was in International Banking at the time. Lived in St. John's Wood. Still remember watching the World Premiere of The Living Daylights transpire outside The Odeon in Leceister Square. (I love Bond!) Next day I saw the actual movie in the same theater ...

CONGRATS on your debut short film, 61 Hugs. Would love to see it!

Sam Borowski Leicester Square has a great energy! :)

CK, I just watched it and it was so honest, so genuine ... so beautiful. I really appreciated it. And, know this - I am not like others on this site. I've seen people post films and often they are not good, to put it mildly, and still people will slap them on the back for the effort. I don't do that, because it's not doing them any justice by not being either honest or constructive. I REALLY enjoyed your film. It told a story ... and it had a clear message. And, as the hero in your own reality you had something to get over - your initial hesitance of being a second-guesser. Because if you don't try ... you can't do. Excellent film. While I primarily make narratives, I did make a feature-length doc with Oscar-Winner Benicio Del Toro, narrated by 3-time Emmy-Winner Keith David. It's about the era surrounding the creation and distribution of the influential horror film, Creature From the Black Lagoon. And, the film's impact on both the Horror/Sci-Fi Genres and the Entertainment Industry itself. Check it out, if you get a chance. It's called Creature Feature: 60 Years of the Gill-Man and the DVD/BLU-RAY is available anywhere on the net, Amazon included. A ton of great extras, as well. :) Really enjoyed your work, mate! GOD BLESS and STAY FRESH!!! ;)

Sam Borowski hey Sam. This is a truly delightful collection of words. Genuinely, thank you for writing them. I appreciate your time watching '61 HUGS', too.

Interestingly, I made 61 HUGS with no real understanding of the 'theory' of storytelling, I made it entirely on instinct. Then, following its release, I discovered a YouTube channel called FILM COURAGE. Are you familiar with it? It's remarkable. Hollywood screenwriters, producers, filmmakers etc sharing their wisdom on what makes a story compelling. I started to hear recurring themes, and one of them was the necessity for a film's protagonist to have a 'conflict' he/she is trying to overcome. There are many other elements I hear them talk about that are like lightbulb moment to me - and they all help me better understand why '61 HUGS' has connected with so many people. I can't recommend FILM COURAGE enough. Go take a look at their YouTube channel.

I also agree with you wholeheartedly about the value of GENUINE/HONEST feedback. I always offer my honest opinion when it is sought, and try to be as encouraging with my opinion as possible. We can all get better at something, so I like to stress that in my more critical feedback.

Is your film on any paid streamers like Amazon Video, or just available as physical purchase?

Many thanks, bud.

Malcolm McLennan

Hi CK, I've just joined STAGE 32 too. My memories of living in the UK when young are grey skies, unlike Sydney. Look forward to checking out '61 HUGS'.

CK Goldiing

Malcolm McLennan so you've been in Sydney for decades, by the sound of it.... : )?

Allen Lynch

Very nice work on 61 Hugs CK. Well done!

Malcolm McLennan

Yes CK. Love the hot weather, very much like L.A. but a lot more rain.

Sam Borowski

CK, at the moment it's only available physical purchase with the DVD and BLU-RAY. We were offered an online streaming deal and my fellow producer wanted to wait on it. We did get a small theatrical first and we are looking to do Special Screenings, T.V. and airlines, as well.

Who is your team? Up The Villa!

Do you have anything on youtube that I could look at?
