New OWAs Launch Today! Seeking Micro-dramas, Fantasy, Faith-Based & More - Closing in 2 Weeks!

Calling all writers! A dynamic new batch of Open Writing Assignments (OWAs) is now live, featuring a diverse range of requests from a top-tier producer and showrunner, a London-based production company, and more.

These opportunities are highly specific and represent a direct line to industry leaders actively developing new projects. But you must act fast—this batch will be closing for submissions in just two weeks.

Here’s a look at the exciting opportunities launching today:

FOR YOUR PRECISE & CHARACTER-DRIVEN PROJECTS:

A Top-tier Producer And Showrunner is looking for sharp, comedic micro-dramas for pre-teen girls, specifically featuring the intelligent and relatable outsider archetype.

A London Based Production Company seeks culturally specific stories with universal resonance.

A Production Company is in the market for elevated genre and prestige, character-driven dramas/thrillers.

FOR GENRE & FAITH-BASED CONTENT:

A Producer And Showrunner, who works with top-tier talent and companies, is seeking fantasy scripts.

The same producer is also looking for faith-based content in all forms and for all ages.

A Producer And Director is on the hunt for compelling book IP to adapt for television and feature films.

This is a targeted call for unique, compelling stories. If you have a script or book property that matches these specific needs, the OWA program is your direct pathway to submission.

One of the OWAs (0589) is seeking "book IPs" for adaptation, with listed "comps" being Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein, and The Running Man.

So, this sounded to me like book manuscripts were possible, not necessarily screenplays. As it happens, I have a published novel, a Sherlock Holmes adventure with Houdini as a character. And I have a PDF of the published manuscript, including front and back covers of the book as sold.

So I submitted it. Normally, only scripts are requested with OWAs, right? Maybe I'm wrong. My novel is 311 pages. Can anyone clarify this?

Debra Holland

I came to ask a similar question to Lee. Do we submit our actual books? Is it possible to submit two, each in completely different genre's?

Lee Matthias

Debra Holland I have learned that it is acceptable to submit a novel manuscript that fits the description. Good luck!

Michael Elliott 2

I submitted a pdf copy of my novel "American Jihad Rising" published in 2011. I've often thought of turning it into a screenplay....but....I got so much blowback from the novel, a lot of bookstores wouldn't stock it. It did pretty online thankfully.

Lee Matthias

Michael Elliott 2 I can still remember when bookstores were everywhere and stocked everything (Walden, B. Dalton, Borders, Barnes & Noble). Now, you walk into a Barnes store and they stock mere samples of categories, and the other merch is almost more numerous! Thank, God for Half Price Books!

The other thing is how polarized the stores still around are, including the independents. If you don't fit the profile, get lost. And they are heavily biased against self-published stuff because they say they are all poorly edited and full of typos. That's true of some, but it's a stereotype, too. And if you accuse them of it, they look at you in horror because you hit them with the truth.

Good luck with your book!

Good luck everyone - let's see more success stories and set the bench mark for 2026!
