Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 does not accept all formats

Hello everyone, I thought that one of the great things of editing with Premiere pro was that you could work with any file formats. I just tried to import mpg footage and it displays an error saying it wasn't able to decompress audio and video... I guess that means I'll have to transcode the footage to other format just like I did when using FCP. What are your thoughts?

Nathanael Gabel

download the software called Moavi, its an amazing converter. I have similar issues with .mkv files. Moavi will change the codec to mp4 or which ever of the options you prefer. it also can make a 2 hour movie clip 1.5gb-2gb. pretty amazing.

Rafael Pinero

So it's like handbreak, I really wanted to avoid making any conversions, that takes time. Is Moavi better than handbreak?

Tony Fisher

That's interesting, adobes website states that mpg files should be fine. I'm probably way off but is there any chance of file corruption?

Rafael Pinero

No file corruption, I can open de files in QT with no problems.

Rafael Pinero

I'll check that

Nathanael Gabel

I'm not sure about Handbreak vs. Moavi. I know that Moavi allows the files size to be lower without and losing quality as long as you don't lower it under the recommended file size.
