Block chain

Hi everyone, I want to know if anyone has worked out how to include block chain technology into films?

I'd like to start using this technology.

Joe Orlandino

Leanne...it's a great concept, Ethereum Smart Contract especially. The potential disintermediation of the entire indie film process will be a game-changer on the level of Napster. However, I don't think it's quite ready for prime time yet. It's about 4 years away, Someone needs to begin writing boilerplate contracts to address all the participants in a film's budget. And all those involved need to accept and buy into the process. Eliminating middlemen will drive the cost of producing a film down by over 50%.

There are a number of attempts. I have been studying it for several years and the real question is what do you want to improve or change that blockchain could make more efficient or possible that is not being done now... that some simple normal process cannot do. Remember, blockchain is a permanent ledger and not anonymous by default. So what aspect of film would you want to subject to such a ledger?

Depends on what you're trying to do, what problem you're trying to solve. A lot of time when people are looking at the blockchain as a solution to improve current workflow, what they really should be looking at is database engineering and/or server administering improvements.

As it stands now, blockchain is an expensive database where prices are paired with a speculative market. So efficient use cases are limited.

Theresa Joy Lorenzetti

Right, I follow; in most cases Blockchain development stems from the cybercurrency desire for cash free access to the marketplace. I can't see any other real reason.

In terms of film making I want to add blockchain to my films meta data to make sure I can track who is watching the film and making sure the money they pay to see it comes to me. Blockchain is about the finances generated by a product being distributed to the owner.

Hey, Leanne Campbell! I'm glad you're revisiting this topic. I'd love for you to start a new post in the Distribution Lounge since this is about tracking the distribution: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/distribution
