Producing : Where do you go to find scripts? by Devin Marcus Miller

Where do you go to find scripts?

Where are the best places to put scripts for potential investors, or ones you use the most? Or do you usually only go through Agents. I am a writer with a litany of completed scripts that I know are of a very high quality. I just don’t know what to do with them or how to get people to take a look. I did option a script once, and that was through someone I met on Stage 32, so I’m back looking for answers or anyone interested in reading some scripts. Thanks for taking the time!!

This is a bit confusing, if you are a writer with your own scripts, why are you optioning other people's scripts? Are you also a producer? If you are a producer with a great script, then why don't you just self-finance a film yourself?

Doug Nelson

Devin, I don't understand your question. I'm a producer now, I used to be a writer and when I get the urge to begin a new project, I look in my desk drawer for a an award winning short script. When it comes to financing - it's all done on my dime. I will direct if I'm forced to. I'm always on the lookout for exceptional quality short (<15 pg) scripts. If you got any, post them on your home page & tell me about them.

Here is an idea: invest $1000 and submit 5 of your best scripts to Nicholls, Page, Austin, Final draft Big break, Tracking board, Sundance writing contests. Agents and Producers will meet you if you win Nicholls & Page in the same year with different scripts.

I would rather just get an IMDB membership. If I ever have fifty dollars again ..

Doug Nelson

Yeah Dan M, - many long years ago, Sundance worked for me.

Devin Marcus Miller

Sorry for the confusion, I am a writer asking producers where they find their scripts so I can put mine there

Devin Marcus Miller

And it was a script of mine that was optioned, sorry phrased that poorly haha

Doug Nelson

Devin - I am a small-time short film Producer nowadays. I look for worty short scripts from local wannabe screenwriters. I notice that you're in Atlanta - a rapidly up and coming filmmaking hub. My advice is to root around locally - I'm confident that you'll find all type of Producers. The key is to actively search - don't sit around and wait for someone to email you.

Keep workin' towards the dream Devin!

We are looking for scripts.....a bit more on what we are looking for.... SEEKING SCRIPTS: Looking for short and feature film scripts to produce at Rooted Sky Films. We are specifically looking for compelling drama scripts that tell a story about the human experience: connection, loss, overcoming the odds, or another element of humanity that is rarely seen on screen. We are also open to dramedies, comedies, and sci-fis that have an element of these themes. We are highly excited about producing shorts that could then be developed into feature length films while the short film goes through the festival circuit. We love character pieces, historical biopics, period pieces, as well as modern day fictional stories. To submit, please follow the link and instructions on: www.rootedskyfilms.com

Put your script on Inktip.com.

I have the same question except I am looking to submit a T.V. pilot. Any advice on how to get a pilot script or Mini Bible to Producer or Production company?

Vasco Phillip de Sousa

Agents are usually the best to go through, because the producer is least likely to get sued if it's through a recognised agency.

The thing is, when your production company gets listed in the right places, you get sent lots of query letters. You don't really have time to look. And, if they got something from inktip or whatever, well, the idea is already out there for everyone else to use.

Write query letters to production companies that have made films for similar audiences. (Notice that I didn't say similar films, but that already know your target market.)

Shawn M Decker

@ Erik Is Inktip worth the money?
