Great article Maurice! You can have fun with this formula by making som of these traits hidden from other characters, or even hidden from the hero themselves until they reach a personal turning point! Anti-heroes usually don't want to admit their compassion for others as they think it will make them look weak (even to themselves), but in the end they will do what is right.

I think the sacrifice is the anchor. That is what makes someone heroic. Running into a burning building is a hero, installing sprinklers is a job. Both save someone in a fire. But a hero has to be willing to be harmed.
It is so important to have an understanding of these character types to know where your characters fit.
