Free version of Final Draft screen writing software

If you download a free version of Final Draft, will studios that you submit scripts to written on that program be able to know if it is the free version as opposed to the full version of the software?

Jean-Pierre Chapoteau

Yeah, because there will be a watermark on the PDF file.

Richard Toscan

I think the "free version" of FD is just a demo/trial copy that's only good for a set number of days (30?). Unless you're downloading a pirated copy. Most studios -- and competitions -- I know of prefer scripts in pdf format if they're just requesting a look at the script.

Laurie Ashbourne

It is on sale right now.

David Levy

Can save $80 right now. Lot of sites and FD are offering the sale.

I am Candian though maybe not as much of a discount

Sarah Gabrielle Baron

IT's so worth it to just buy the software. I use moviemagic.

David E. Gates

Quick question on Final Draft - does the "International" version recognise that I'm writing in UK English as opposed to US English?

Randolph Walker

I have fd its great the support team are all writers buy it if you can

Randolph Walker

I got my dad into writing he loves the program it comes with a screenwriting package also

Dawn Johnston

Hey Patrick, you could try https://writerduet.com/ It has a robust free version, you can export to pdf or final draft (or others with no watermark) plus I love it so much that I actually switched from Final Draft even though I'd recently upgraded. WD has tools that FD hasn't even thought of and it's being updated all the time. If you ever do go to FD you can always export with no loss of format. The developer is a writer and he responds to feature requests. Can't say enough about it. FD is stuck in the old software dev model, upgrade every few years. And the full version of WD costs about the same as the FD upgrade.

Patrick J. McKenna

Yes but will these other programs be accepted by hollywood studios?

Sarah Gabrielle Baron

No matter what program you write in, in the end you convert it to pdf. You will never submit anything in 'final draft' or 'moviemagic' or whatever. Only submit pdf (not even Word format, only pdf). If a studio wants to you write for them on a team or project, they'll pay you and you'll use whatever software they use. :)
