The sci-fi genre provides an expansive canvas for visual storytelling, but its challenges and pitfalls can prove as unforgiving as navigating an alien landscape. In sci-fi screenwriting, bold ideas attract attention, but the script must be able to translate those high concepts into emotionally urgent, production-ready pages. In this webinar, we’ll talk about some of Hollywood’s most unforgettable sci-fi worlds, from the neon-drenched alleys of Blade Runner to the claustrophobic corridors of Alien, and dissect the how’s and why’s of their engineering. In today’s competitive market, it’s not enough to have a great sci-fi idea — you need a production-ready blueprint that grips the reader from Page One to FADE OUT.

Sydney S Science fiction films explore inventive and forward-looking concepts, often rooted in science or technology. They examine how these ideas affect individuals and societies, sometimes on a cosmic scale. Today, sci-fi encompasses a vast and diverse landscape, offering an abundance of material to explore.

Nice. I plan to do major rewrites of one my sci-fi scripts and transformation of it into something "emotionally urgent" is in the cards.

Will it be possible to get a copy of the original spec scripts, not just the final one?

Thank you for showing how the alien setting tells us that the corporation sees the crew as expendable.

Since setting is so important for sci fi, are we allowed to give more information about the setting and/or POV than would normally be tolerated in a spec script?

Sydney S I'm currently working on a re-write of the third story in my Star Dancer universe following feedback from consultations, a table read and my beta readers. It will be a stronger story when I finish. Once that's done, I'm starting on a new story with a character from the first in the trilogy which will be an action-adventure piece, a bit "Indiana Jones" in space!
